BRP takes luxury riding to the next level with the introduction of the Sea-Doo GTX Limited 300. The combination of increased power and efficiency of the new 300-hp Rotax 1630 ACE engine with the advanced ergonomics of the Ergolock seat deliver a confidence inspiring ride allowing you to push your limits even further. This year all GTX models receive the new Ergolock seat with stepped design and the second generation of the intuitive Intelligent Brake & Reverse (iBR) system for an added level of control adding more value to the most full-featured luxury models in the watercraft industry.

ROTAX 1630 ACE Marine engine - Static4

ROTAX 1630 ACE Marine Engine

The new Rotax 1630 ACE engine is the most powerful engine ever produced by Rotax with a 15% power increase creating 300 hp, providing better acceleration and more mid-range power1. With increased intake air boost, improved cooling system and new ignition timing for the larger fuel injectors, the new Sea-Doo GTX Limited 300 elevates performance in the luxury segment.

In addition to the development of the new Rotax 1630 ACE engine, BRP applies the latest ergonomic science to perfect the rider position with the new Ergolock seat with stepped design on all GTX models in 2016. The Ergolock seat provides all riders a full body connection with the watercraft and a more natural position for more comfortable touring and confident cornering. The Ergolock seat design is sculpted to the riders’ bodies with a narrower section between the knees slightly widening towards the rear. The stepped-seating implements rising seating levels for better passenger vision with added lumbar cushioning providing added support for up to three riders that hold them in place better in all conditions.

The third major improvement for 2016 is all Sea-Doo GTX models will be equipped with the new second-generation iBR that improves on the intuitive iBR braking system with a more responsive activation and faster braking. The Sea-Doo iBR system introduced in 2009 is the first and only braking system recognized by the United States Coast Guard for contributing to recreational boating safety and stops the Sea-Doo watercraft close to 48.75 m (160-feet)2 sooner than the same watercraft not using a braking system. The new iBR system adds to the rider centric design approach providing unmatched control at speed and during tight quarter manoeuvring.

boat, boats, brakes, ibr, icontrol, iTC, jet boats, jet ski, jetskis, on-water brake, performance boats, personal watercraft, pwc, Sea-Doo, sea-doos, seadoo, stopping on the water, suspension, tubing, wake, Wake Boarding, water flume, water rooster, watercraft, waverunner, what does that sea-doo term mean?

Impeller? Ergolock? Sponsons?  The personal watercraft industry speaks its own language and here at Sea-Doo we also speak our own language.  We have distilled some of the most common acronyms and words related to Sea-Doo watercraft so the next time you are wondering, “just what is Sport Mode” you can easily find an answer.

A.E.S.: Adjustable Ergonomic Steering

Adjustable Rear Sponsons:  An efficient design that improves lateral stability. 3-position adjustable for skill level and riding environment: higher for a more playful freeride experience or lower for more aggressive turning. Winglet feature enhances lean angles during turning.

aS – Adjustable Suspension: Suspension that utilizes a superior grade high-performance shock made by FOX with full preload and compression manual adjustability.

Closed Loop Cooling System (CLCS): Uses coolant to keep a Sea-Doo’s engine running at the ideal temperature, much like a car’s radiator. The CLCS also keeps out corrosive saltwater and debris.

D.E.S.S. Digitally Encoded Security System: The Industry’s first digitally encoded theft-deterrent system. This system prevents unauthorized use. Sea-Doo’s are embedded with a unique microchip that is engaged with the rider’s lanyard. This feature was singled out by the National Insurance Crime Bureau as one of the best theft deterrents available on a personal watercraft.[1]

D-Sea-Bel System: This system combines a series of resonators and vibration absorbing components to make Sea-Doo watercraft some of the quietest on the water.

ECO mode: The iTC function that automatically determines the most economical power delivery and sets the optimal RPM for greatest fuel economy.

Ergolock System: A combination of ergonomic features that allow amazing control while cornering with less upper body fatigue. It features a narrow racing seat with knee grab design, adjustable handlebars and angled footwells that allow riders to “lock” in when cornering hard. This results in faster turns and more time on the water.

High Performance VTS (Variable Trim System): Provides pre-set positions for quick settings VTS (Variable Trim System) when adjusting boat trim, maximizes acceleration and high-speed stability.

iBR – Intelligent Brake and Reverse: The world’s only on-water braking system. The iBR system lets riders stop up to 100 feet sooner than any other watercraft[2]. All with the squeeze of a lever. And with its electronic reverse, it gives riders a level of maneuverability that makes docking easier. Click here to view a video on Sea-Doo iBR.

iControl: The “Brain’’ that integrates and controls all systems to create the best possible ride. iControl includes iBR, iTC and S³.

iControl Learning Key: The programmable Learning Key allows riders to limit the performance of the PWC based on skill-level.

iS: Intelligent Suspension. 6 inches of adjustable suspension that automatically adapt to isolate the rider from the impact of rough water.

Impeller: A rotating component of a centrifugal pump, usually made of iron, steel, bronze, brass, aluminum or plastic, that transfers energy from the motor.

iTC – Intelligent Throttle Control: Sea-Doo’s intuitive Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) technology. Sea-Doo watercraft are the only watercraft to start in neutral, so the engine runs without propelling the craft forward – giving riders safer dockside starts and easy, stress-free maneuverability. The throttle responds to an electronic signal instead of a cable. This allows more precise engine calibration, resulting in better fuel economy and a lower operating cost. It also features an activity-specific cruise control, Touring/Sport mode and ECO™ mode that can all be set to accommodate riding styles.

Naturally Aspirated: The Sea-Doo air intake, like in a car, draws air into the engine that is then mixed with fuel to power the watercraft. In a Naturally Aspirated engine the engine breaths naturally without forced induction.

PWC: Personal Watercraft. A PWC is a recreational watercraft that the rider sits on, or stands on, rather than riding inside of a boat.  PWCs have an inboard engine fueled by a  jet pump with an impeller to create thrust for propulsion and steering.  Most are designed for two or three people. The United States Coast Guard defines a personal watercraft as a jet drive boat less than 13’ feet in length.

ROTAX 4-TEC Engine:  Each Sea-Doo watercraft comes equipped with a legendary Rotax 4-TEC engine specifically designed for marine use. Not only do riders get quicker acceleration and a higher top speed, Rotax engines also works hand in hand with iTC to provide more precise engine calibration. What this means is better fuel economy.

S3 hull: Stepped, stable & strong. Our S³ Hull is the first and only one of its kind. Its stepped design reduces drag while staying glued to the water for a stable and consistent ride. The material of the S³ Hull is up to 20% lighter than competitors *[3], yet the hull remains incredibly strong, due to its ribbed construction. This means better handling and fuel efficiency.

Seadooing: Riding a Sea-Doo on the water.

Speed Based Ski Mode: This advanced iControl feature allows the driver to adjust the intensity of the launch for different rider skill levels and tow sports while maintaining a constant speed. There are 5 acceleration profiles for the best possible tow sports experience.

Sponsons: Projections from the sides of the watercraft for buoyancy and stability to increase floatation and lift when underway

Supercharged: Extra power. The engine artificially force feeds air into the engine increasing performance.

Suspension (S): Adjustable Suspension: 5.5 inches (12.7 cm) of suspension manually adjustable with a regular wrench. Gives riders a smooth ride in all water conditions.

T3 Hull: Innovative multi-staged design with extreme hard and soft chines. Allows for more precise cornering, enhances lean-in, cuts water and tracks better; extremely responsive.

Touring or Sport mode: Offers a choice between two throttle responses for different riding styles. Touring mode is the default setting offering a more progressive acceleration curve for a more confident ride – ideal for cruising and 2-up riding. Sport mode can be easily activated using the Sport button. It provides all acceleration performance for a more aggressive throttle response.

Touring Seat: Plush, ergonomic design provides maximum comfort and support for the rider and passenger.

Trim Tabs: Limit bow rise and improve parallelism to water. Also increase tracking in rough water conditions.

Tubing: The act of pulling an inflatable tube behind a personal watercraft or boat across a body of water.

Wake:  (Nautical Term) The waves or track left by a vessel or other object moving through water. Wake Boarders and Wake Skaters have made a sport out of riding the wake.

Wake Boarding:  A surface watersport, which involves riding a wakeboard over the surface of a body of water. It was developed from a combination of waterskiing, snowboarding and surfing.  A wake board is buoyant and traditionally constructed of foam or honeycomb mixed with resin and coated with fiberglass. The rider is attached to the wake board with adjustable bindings. The rider is towed behind a motorized vehicle such as a Sea-Doo watercraft, a boat, winches or a closed-course cable system.

Wake Skating: An adaptation of wakeboarding that uses a similar board design but the rider is not bound to the board in any way. The board is constructed of wood or fiberglass and covered with grip tape or a soft, high-traction foam, usually referred to as EVA foam. Here is a link to our instructional WAKE series on YouTube.

Waterskiing: A sport in which a person is typically pulled behind a personal watercraft, boat or cable over a body of water.

Did we miss anything? Let us know and we will continue to add to this list.

SEA-DOO X-TEAM TUESDAY – PROFILE

X-TEAM RACER – JARED MOORE

NAME:                    Jared Moore

SPORT:                    PWC Racing

AGE:                         29 years old

PORT:                       Benoni, Gauteng, South Africa

Jared Moore is fast.  So fast he doesn’t know how fast he is most of the time.  Moore lives in South Africa where a few fast personal watercraft racers hail from, notedly Dustin Motzouris, but Moore must travel more than a good distance to draw competition that compares to his talents. Last October, Moore showed that speed, placing second in the IJSBA World Finals premier event the Pro Open behind James Bushell; both aboard Sea-Doo RXP-X models.

Moore is your everyday, hard working guy, your everyday motorhead guy. As competitive as anyone you will meet but with a laid back southern hemisphere charm.

Let’s meet Sea-Doo X-TEAM racer, Jared Moore.

OnBoard – Jared, where did you grow up and how was your competitive spirit developed?

Moore –I grew up on a small farm just outside Benoni which is not too far from Johannesburg in South Africa. Growing up on farm gave me a lot of space for fun and making trouble with a lot of toys to play on like 4-wheeler motorbikes, pit bikes, and anything that would move which could be ridden hard, rebuilt and ridden hard again.

OnBoard -What do you do away from the water to stay on the water? What’s your profession?

Moore – I work for my father’s company, we rebuild trucks which have been in accidents and we have a few trucks that transport cars. So some days I’m a mechanic and the other days I’m a truck driver.

OnBoard – Jared, How were you introduced to watersports?

Moore – My father and some of my uncles all raced some form of boats, so I was around water sports growing up. I raced 15 to 25 hp boats from the age of 10 and started racing personal watercraft when I was 14 years old. When I was 15, I started racing F1 boats in South Africa while still racing Sea-Doos. When I turned 17 I stared to focus mainly on racing Sea-Doo watercraft.

OnBoard – Since you began competing what are some of your accolades?

Moore – I won the Expert Runabout Limited 1200cc class in 2003 and 2005 at the IJSBA World Finals in Lake Havasu City AZ, USA before moving to the Pro Class in 2007. In 2011 I got a 3rd at the TJSBA Kings Cup in Thailand and the best I’ve done was 2nd in the Pro Open class last year at World Finals in Havasu on the new RXPX.

OnBoard – Jared, Where is your favorite PWC race site?

Moore – I love the challenging racing at the World Finals in Lake Havasu but my favorite place to race will have to be in Pattaya City, Thailand at the King’s Cup. With white sand, blue water, the scooters and some of the most interesting people you’ll ever meet. The racing is hard with four long moto’s and you never know what’s going to happen next.

OnBoard – What is it about PWC racing that keeps you coming back?

Moore – The bug bit me a long time ago and I love the sport. The skis are so fast now and just work so well in any conditions. When you go to the start line you never know what’s going to happen, and wanting to be the best is the thing that keeps me coming back for more.

OnBoard – Jared, where is your favorite non-racing, riding location?

Moore-Dustin Motz lives on the coast, about 6 hours drive for me. There is a small closed spot in the harbor where he has set up a track and we go there and train. It’s always warm there, even in winter when we train for World Finals. It’s so much fun when the wind blows and the water gets rough and we ride until we can’t walk.

OnBoard – How was your experiences travelling to the IJSBA World Finals? And who is helping your racing efforts (sponsors)

Moore – Going to the World Finals is a long trip for us, far from home. It’s easy to get off work to travel to the race when you work for your main sponsor (TM Trucking), my father’s company. We get a lot of help from Dustin Motz at Fast Powersport and we could not have done it without the team at Sea-Doo Centre, they really are the best and it shows with Sea-Doo Centre built Skis finishing 1-2-3 in the Pro Open Class at World Finals and the top 5 at the Kings Cup. But for the most part, my racing is self funded.

OnBoard – What are you racing right now and what are looking forward to?

Moore –I’m racing a Sea-Doo Centre modified 2012 RXPX , this is the best ski I’ve ever had, it goes where I want it to and has more than enough power to get me there. We working on a few new things to keep us up there but will be using the same ski to help us get to number 1.

BRP thanks Jared Moore for his time and dedication to the pursuit of PWC racing glory aboard Sea-Doo.

Moore- Thanks very much for all the support and keep on make the best PWCs on the market.

Just the thought of docking your Sea-Doo can cause anxiety for new Sea-Doo owners.  Getting your personal watercraft in and out of the water can also be a struggle for novice riders.  Boat ramp etiquette demands quick launch and retrieval.  One of the BRP‘s key technologies, iControl, makes for easy docking, loading and uploading. Riders are able to keep their hands on the handlebars at all times and you can easily switch into neutral and reverse with the touch of  the lever.  This technology gives riders greater peace of mind and confidence when navigating docks and the launch ramps.

THE INTREPID COTTAGER: Riding in the Rain

Riding in the rain isn’t something I choose to do. But sometimes on long day-rides or tours it’s unavoidable.

Before setting out on my Sea-Doo watercraft, I carefully and frequently check the marine forecast and weather radar for the specific riding area. If the probability of precipitation is 40% or more, we either change the time (ride earlier, later, shorter) or location of the ride. If there’s much chance of thunderstorms or we can’t change the ride, we cancel. Still, we get caught occasionally.

If you’re thinking, “What’s the problem with a nice, warm rain?,” you’ve probably never experience rain riding. It’s not the getting wet; it’s what I call the pain of a million pinpricks. Yes, those drops that are so gentle when you’re sitting still, feel like pinpricks on any bare flesh while you’re moving. And the faster you go, the greater the pain. Besides avoiding sunburn, this is another reason I always ride covered (see my blog posting: Riding Protected). Rain can hit unexpectedly at any time. With little bare skin exposed, it doesn’t hurt, except on your bare face…

The face is very vulnerable and rain also makes it harder to see. Wearing a ball cap and glasses or Sea-Doo goggles certainly helps, but the best bet is a facemask. Often worn by anglers in high-speed bass boats, these lightweight, plastic shields slip easily over your face to provide full coverage and have a polycarbonate lens to see through. For 2012, BRP Envinrude sells a good one. Alternatively, a neoprene facemask made for snowmobiling will also work.

With no pain to distract you, riding in the rain can actually be fun, provided you can see well enough and there’s no thunder and lightning. But you’re likely going to get wet. So the big deal is to stay warm. Warm and wet is fine. Cold and wet is miserable. Once again, my long sleeves and pants help to keep me warm by breaking wind contact with my skin. The Sea-Doo Men’s Neoprene Riding Jacket will help hold in body heat. The good news is that most unexpected summer rains dissipate quickly and the sun soon returns to dry you out. Talk to you next time!

BRP’s award winning Sea-Doo RXP-X 260 leads the strongest high-performance line-up in watercraft history. BRP invented the performance watercraft in 1991 and has led the industry in this segment ever since. The 2013 Sea-Doo high-performance family includes five models led by the RXP-X 260, the decorated, world championship-winning model that changed the definition of watercraft in this segment. The RXP-X 260 offers a T3 hull and Ergolock system, empowering riders to ride like pros with less effort. This high-performance family includes the Sea-Doo RXP-X 260, RXT-X aS 260, RXT-X 260, RXT 260 and the popular GTR 215.

2013 Sea-Doo RXP-X 260

BRP’s Sea-Doo RXP-X 260 became the new standard in the high-performance arena by winning the IJSBA Pro Open & GP racing World Championships, and the European tour Pro Stock and GP Championships. The RXP-X is also the recipient of the prestigious National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) Innovation Award, the Red Dot Design Award, and was named 2012 “PWC of the Year” by PWCToday.com.

The 2013 RXP-X 260 enters its second year of setting new performance standards with an ominous visual appeal, ingenious hull design and reinvented ergonomics that allows riders to realize 100% of their riding potential. The T3 hull design allows the RXP-X 260 to aggressively lean into corners and penetrate chop better than any of its two-seater counterparts. T3 stands for “tight-turning t-hull” and uses an advanced, dual surface hull design with a unique combination of soft and hard chines, dual axis adjustable rear sponsons and performance trim tabs. This allows the rider to turn tighter and faster, leaving the competition green with envy.

The revolutionary Ergolock system integrates a narrowing, body-molded racing seat, Adjustable Ergonomic Steering (A.E.S.) system and angled footwell wedges, all complementing the aggressive, lean-in characteristics. With the A.E.S. system, the rider can adjust the handlebar width and grip angle for a perfect upper body connection. The unique RXP-X 260 seat form-fits the rider’s lower body, alleviating upper body strain in hard turns, connecting the rider to the machine, and ultimately the water, better than any other two-seater. Following the dominating World Championship-winning performance of Sea-Doo X-TEAM rider, James Bushell, aboard the T3 hull, the racing community has turned to the RXP-X 260 as the new standard on race-circuits worldwide. With over a year of aftermarket performance parts development, the RXP-X 260 can be customized to fit any enthusiasts’ desires. BRP’s Intelligent Brake and Reverse (iBR) and Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) systems make the 2013 RXP-X 260 the most feature and technology rich two-seater in high-performance watercraft history.

Universal Basic PFD (US)

With summer almost here, families and friends are eager to get outdoors and spend time on the water – boating, fishing, sailing and more. But, with approximately 500 people drowning each year from recreational boating accidents, it is imperative to push the message of “Wear It!”: wear your life jacket at all times while you are on the water.

Ladies Airflow PFD

The National Safe Boating Council, in partnership with the Canadian Safe Boating Council, invite boating safety professionals, the boating community and the media to participate in “Ready, Set, Wear It!” on Saturday, May 19. Participants in cities around the globe will gather to set a world record for the most life jackets worn and inflatable life jackets inflated. The goal is not only to promote the comfortable and versatile options when it comes to life jackets, but also to educate the public about life jackets and safe boating in general.

Men's Airflow PFD (US)

Last year, 1,685 people gathered at more than 99 events held around the world to set a new record for the number of participants who inflated their inflatable life jacket or wore an inherently buoyant life jacket.

Sea-Doo has a full line of Personal Floatation Devices (PFD)s from our Universal Basic PFD  to the Men’s Airflow PFD.  Not to leave out

the  ladies, we have the Ladies Motion PFD as well as a Ladies Airflow and other choices.  Our children’s line of PFDs includes the popular Kids SandSea and more.

Visit www.ReadySetWearIt.com to find a local event in your area.
