X-Team logoValcourt, QC, CANADA– March, 11, 2014 – BRP continues to lead the watercraft industry in race support in North America through the supercharged, 2014 Sea-Doo X-TEAM Bounty racer contingency program and Sea-Doo Race Promoter support program.

BRP has dominated watercraft runabout racing over the past several years, reaching all time highs following the introduction of the Sea-Doo RXP-X 260 with Ergolock and T3 hull. Sea-Doo X-TEAM riders filled 27 out of 33 available podium positions and 10 of 11 championships at the 2013 IJSBA World Championships for the most dominant World Finals performance of any sit-down watercraft since the introduction of the 1995 Sea-Doo XP model. Matching the industry leading on-water effort is equally strong off-water Sea-Doo support programs. The 2014 Sea-Doo X-TEAM Bounty program provides more contingency money than any other program in the industry and makes it available to all Sea-Doo riders competing on modern Sea-Doo watercraft. BRP also ensures there are more race events across North America for the racers through the Sea-Doo Promoter support program.

The supercharged 2014 Sea-Doo X-TEAM Bounty program receives a boost with added class payouts for the new Sea-Doo Spark model eligible classes and boosted US National Tour and World Finals championship bonuses in the Pro Open and Pro Stock classes. BRP’s Sea-Doo X-TEAM Bounty is open to ALL racers competing on modern Sea-Doo models in designated classes. The Sea-Doo contingency is essentially an, “open-sponsorship” that excludes no one, except those competing on watercraft other than Sea-Doo. In addition to the glory that comes with winning on Sea-Doo watercraft, comes the opportunity for extra prize money.

The Sea-Doo Promoter Support program provides event promoters sponsorship to help them produce more, high-quality, fun events. BRP works with the promoters to ensure Sea-Doo owners have a place to ride and compete in an organized manner, providing another fun aspect of owning a Sea-Doo watercraft.

“BRP supports the Sea-Doo racing community with the most dominant closed course watercraft in the RXP-X 260 and supports those winners with the strongest contingency program, the Sea-Doo X-TEAM Bounty,” says Tim McKercher, of Sea-Doo watercraft competition management.

in compliment, “BRP is taking the lead in ensuring watercraft owners have more, good events to feed their competitive spirit with the Sea-Doo Promoter support program that helps these promoters put on more and higher quality events” says Adrien de Alexandris marketing manager for Sea-Doo watercraft.

BRP does more for the sport of watercraft racing than any other company.

For 2014 this support begins at the first round of the 2014 P1 AQUA X US tour in Daytona Beach, FL, April 26-27, 2014.

The Sea-Doo Promoter Support program will include sponsorship of the following North American watercraft racing series:

  • IJSBA World Finals – Lake Havasu City, AZ
  • US National Tour – Seven stops across the United States
  • Pro Hydro-X Tour – South-East United States
  • GreenHulk.net HydroDrags – South-East United States (Drag Racing)

Kings Cup Pro Run About Open Grand Prix Winners, from Left to Right: (4) Jared Moore, (2) James Bushell, (1) Veerapong Maneechom, (3) Chaowalit Kuajaroon, (5) Aero Aswar

Sea-Doo X-TEAM riders continue to dominate personal watercraft racing with a record setting effort at the recent 2012 PWC KING’S CUP GRAND PRIX in Pattaya City Thailand.  The King’s Cup is the last major PWC race of the year, as the top riders from around the world close out their competitive year following October’s IJSBA World Championship. For the past eight years many of the top riders have converged at the Kings Cup to battle for one last chance at a title during the calendar year.

In the premier Pro Runabout Open class Veerapong Maneechom (Thailand), James Bushell (United Kingdom) and Chaowalit Kuajaroon (Thailand) showed the world once again that it takes the all-new Sea-Doo RXP-X 260 to claim a podium spot this year. James Bushell after winning runabout world titles in both Pro Open and GP tied overall winner Maneechom in points at the end of the weekend, but it came down to a tiebreaker the final moto. Maneechom separated himself from the pack during his final moto victory, and the event ended with Maneechom standing on the winners spot at this years King Cup. Not only did Sea-Doo riders fill the podium, Sea-Doo X-TEAM riders in the Pro Runabout Open class took spots one through seven, and eight of the top ten racers were riding Sea-Doo RXP-X watercraft.

After the dominating performances at the IJSBA World Finals the X-TEAM momentum continues. The fastest riders in the world are choosing to ride Sea-Doo watercraft. These numbers continue to grow since the Sea-Doo RXP-X has arrived on the market; lets take a look…

–       Of the 134 racers in the runabout category at the Kings Cup, 103 of them were riding Sea-Doo watercraft, an impressive 77%.

–       There were 27 podium spots available, 23 of them were claimed by a Sea-Doo.

–       Nine class championships were available, eight of those were won by a racer on a Sea-Doo watercraft.

Pro Am Runabout stock class shared a familiar theme with the Pro Runabout Open class. Once again Sea-Doo took the top three positions with Terra Settura from Thailand taking the top honors. Settura won two of the four motos. Runner up Omude Salee from Cambodia put up a challenge by also winning two motos, but Settura’s combined moto scores bested Salee’s for the 2012 title. Rounding out the podium was Thanaphan Phungjunan from Thailand.

As race season comes to an end and plans are made for 2013, one can’t help but wonder how many racers will be aboard Sea-Doo watercraft next season. Congratulations to all of the new Kings Cup Champions and to all racers who chose Sea-Doo as their watercraft of choice at this years PWC Kings Cup – World Cup Grand Prix

PRO STOCK WINNER CHRIS MacCLUGAGE

The Sea-Doo X-TEAM sweeps the PRO STOCK podium at the third round of the IJSBA National watercraft racing tour with MACC Racing’s Chris MacClugage claiming another overall win in Racine, Wisconsin on his MONSTER ENERGY/RIVA Racing Sea-Doo RXP-X.

“The RXP-X is so much fun to race,” said MacClugage.  “It reminds me of racing sport (class) early in my career when I had the most fun racing. The fact they came in 1-2-3 shows how good this watercraft is.”

Racers aboard the new Sea-Doo RXP-X finished 1-2-3 in the highly competitive Pro Stock class as Snyder Built/Riva Racing Racing backed Troy Snyder and the RIVA Racing/Red Bull RXP-X of Erminio Iantosca filled the second and third spots on the podium behind MacClugage. All three racers are utilizing the same Sea-Doo RXP-X watercraft* that musclecraft enthusiasts can purchase directly from an authorized BRP/Sea-Doo watercraft dealer today. MacClugage continues to show how the new RXP-X T3 hull’s tight-turning capabilities allow him to run tighter and faster lap times than ever before.

Further proving the off the floor racing capabilities of Sea-Doo watercraft, Georgia’s Jeff Dyckowski and Florida’s Brent Venderley won the Expert Stock and Novice Stock respectively.

Runner up Troy Snyder on RXP-X

NAME: Erminio Iantosca

SPORT:  PWC Racing

AGE:  31 years old

PORT: Naples, Florida

Erminio Iantosca is only in the dawn of his 30s but he is a long time veteran of the sport of personal watercraft and chases his passion with the full support of his family. Iantosca has been racing watercraft for over half of his life and has ridden nearly every style and brand of watercraft before making the switch to Sea-Doo last year.  Erminio is well know for running one of the most professional teams among all North American efforts and now flies the Sea-Doo X-TEAM flag proudly.

Honing his riding skills on the gulf waters of South-West Florida, Iantosca is a perennial front runner in the PRO STOCK and PRO OPEN classes in a variety of bodies of water but the surf conditions are still his favorite. OnBoard caught up with Erminio after the first two rounds of the 2012 IJSBA National Tour to share what makes him tick and how he lives the Sea-Doo Life.

ONBOARD —Where did you grow up and how was your competitive spirit developed?

I grew up in Naples, Florida just north of the ten thousand island area, so there is a lot of water here.  Growing up, my dad always told me “If I was going to do anything, I better do it right,” and that gave me the drive and work ethic to pursue professional racing.

ONBOARD — What do you do away from the water to stay on the water? What’s your profession?

I try to mix up my athletic training by participating in everything from typical gym workouts to tennis. My family owns Mama Mia’s Pizzeria and my entire family grew up helping with the family business.

ONBOARD — How were you introduced to watersports?

When I was growing up my Dad got a stand- up (jet-ski) from one of his friends. I was too young to ride it, so he sold it to fellow Sea-Doo X-team racer Chris MacClugage’s dad, for Chris to ride. We knew Chris because my parents started Mama Mia’s Pizza next to a gas station that Chris’s dad owned. Our parents became and still are close friends. As a little kid I would always go to the races with Chris and that’s how I was initially introduced to Watercraft Racing.

ONBOARD — Since you began competing what are some of your accolades?

Two time Busch World Cup Champion, five time National Champion and one time World Champion.

ONBOARD — You have a family engrained in this sport, what are some of your family connections to the sport beyond yourself?

Well, besides me as the rider, I am blessed to have an enthusiastic family support system. First, my Dad, who is not only my mechanic, but the hardest working person I know. He is happy to put in endless hours working on my skis to make sure they perform at the highest level.
Then there is my brother, Joseph Iantosca, who is my “go-to” guy. He helps with everything from driving and traveling to races, getting the ski to the water, to holding my ski at the start. He also is responsible for filming all of my Go-Pro footage.
Last but not least, my Mom and sister are always there for support and to cheer me on at all of the races. I couldn’t have done it all of these years without my mom who has been there through all of the highs and lows of racing. She also keeps us on time and well fed. My sister, Kristina Iantosca-Hodges, my family’s social butterfly, goes tent to tent keeping us updated on the lives of our tight-knit racing community. She is always there at the races to make sure we have everything that we need.
Then there is my brother-in-law, Mike Hodges, with Riva Racing who helps me with any parts I need, any questions I may have, and even by being my second mechanic. He is always available to give me positive feedback and keep me focused on the end result.

ONBOARD — Your accomplishments riding watercraft have opened the doors for other action opportunities. What “extra” perks have you enjoyed from being a pro racer?

Because of the similarities between action sports I’ve been able to travel to amazing locations and meet other extraordinary athletes along the way. Thanks to Sea-Doo, I had the opportunity to teach NFL players how to ride watercraft in the Battle of the Gridiron competition. I had a minor part in a movie titled “Making Waves.” For the past few years, I have been invited to participate in a charity golf tournament benefitting Florida Gulf Coast University’s athletics with a variety of other athletes from various professional sports.

ONBOARD — Where is your favorite PWC race site?

Oceanside, California has the biggest surf conditions. I prefer to race in big surf conditions because it pushes all of the racers to compete at a higher level.

ONBOARD — What is it about PWC racing that keeps you coming back?

I enjoy the thrill of going fast on the water, pushing my body to its limits. I also appreciate the camaraderie that we all experience as the PWC racing family.

ONBOARD — What is your dream ride?

My dream ride would be to take a Sea-Doo watercraft around the islands of Fiji because of the beautiful water and scenic views.

ONBOARD — What is or has been YOUR favorite part of being part of the Sea-Doo X-TEAM?

My favorite part of being a Sea-Doo X-team rider is racing for a company as friendly, helpful and intelligent as BRP.

ONBOARD — What are you racing right now and what are looking forward to and who is supporting your 2012 efforts?

I am currently racing the new Sea-Doo RXP-X, and looking forward to racing to the best of my ability and representing Sea-Doo and BRP to the fullest. This couldn’t be achieved without Riva Racing, WRT, Hydro-turf, Jet Pilot, Craig Construction, Skat-Trak, Spy, DC Shoes, and Redbull.

BRP thanks Erminio for his time and passion for the sport.

The 2012 UWP IJSBA National racing tour will visit seven popular PWC venues across the united States this summer with the best PWC racers in North America competing for the prestigious title of National Champion. The start of the 2012 season kicks off the debut of the highly touted new 2012 Sea-Doo RXP-X watercraft with over a half dozen of the top Pro riders making the switch to the new, tight-turning platform with Ergolock system. The season starts at the SuperCup of Watercross in Panama City Beach, Florida, May 19-20.  The stunning white sand and emerald green waters create the perfect backdrop for the opening round of the 2012 race season.

Chris MacClugage begins his 2012 Campaign on a new ride, his MACC Racing/Monster Energy backed Sea-Doo RXP-X.

Professional Sea-Doo watercraft racer and new  Sea-Doo X-Team rider Chris MacClugage  will begin his quest to add to his 15- National and World Titles in both the PRO Stock and PRO OPEN classes aboard his MACC Racing/Monster Energy backed Sea-Doo RXP-X. Perennial challenger and 2012 PRO Stock National Champion Troy Snyder will be campaigning to regain his title back from MacClugage aboard his Neptune Racing built Sea-Doo watercraft with challenge also coming from Sea-Doo X-TEAM Pros Claude Clayton, Brian Baldwin, Chris Heinrich, Brad Bohat, Eric Lagopoulos, and Jeremy Schandlemeyer.

The second BRP supported  event, the US Open of Watercross is scheduled for May 26-17 on the Alabama River in Montgomery, Alabama.  The elevated riverwalk borders the river and creates an excellent venue for watching all of the racing action. And the classic southern city of Montgomery provides the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the many heroes who helped shape our nation.

Racine, Wisconsin hosts the Grand Prix of Watercross on the western shore of Lake Michigan, June 16-17.  This Great Lake is a unique stop on the tour as the lake conditions are constantly changing. The waters can go from smooth glass in the morning to three-foot rollers in the afternoon and back to calm racing conditions by the end of the race all providing both racers and spectators an exciting race!

The complete 2012 UWP IJSBA National Tour schedule:

  • Supercross of Watercross, Panama City Beach, Florida, May 19-20

BRP continues to lead the industry by supporting PWC racers with the Sea-Doo X-TEAM Bounty, the only racer contingency program in the sport, offering additional funds to racers finishing on the podium* aboard Sea-Doo watercraft. This “open sponsorship” is available to all modern* Sea-Doo watercraft racers rewarding them for top finishes and to help fund their racing efforts.  For 2012 many of the Sea-Doo X-TEAM Bounty payouts have been raised.
