THEY SAID WHAT? Personalwatercraft.com review of the 2014 Sea-Doo WAKE

THEY SAID WHAT? Personalwatercraft.com reviewed the Sea-Doo WAKE 155 and commented that “many serious riders – particularly the wakeskate crowd – actually prefer a PWC over a monster tow boat. Why? PWC are certainly inexpensive, cheap to run, and easy to tow, but they’re also small and maneuverable. They get up close to obstacles without sending them rocking, deftly maneuver around hit-filled parks, and get into shallower areas where bigger towboats fear to tread.

2014 SEA-DOO WAKE 155_ACTION7The 2014 Sea-Doo WAKE models are designed to deliver years of watersports fun for families and professionals alike. BRP’s Sea-Doo WAKE watercraft offer unmatched versatility by providing a first-class pull and exhilarating ride perfect for both beginner and professional boarders, skaters and tow sport enthusiasts. Learning to ride behind an iControl technologies-equipped Sea-Doo watercraft is easier, less intimidating, and more economical than behind a traditional powerboat. Both WAKE models are available with the exclusive Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) system and include the exclusive speed-based Ski Mode to fit wake boarders’ and wake skaters’ needs. This exclusive feature is engineered to make every driver an expert driver with the ability to program the acceleration curve and target speed for a consistent, perfect pull every time.

The WAKE 155 model is ideal for the rider who tends to take short day trips on smaller bodies of water, is nimble, versatile in moderate chop and includes room for up to three riders. In addition to Ski mode, this model includes iControl and ECO mode. It features class-leading comfort and storage with 116.6 litres (30.8 US gallons) of usable space. The WAKE 155 comes equipped with a large swim platform with a fold-down reboarding step, mirrors, and the watercraft industry’s only WAKE package including; Ski mode, retractable ski pylon with three positions and spotter handles, removable board rack and exclusive WAKE graphics.

The 2014 Sea-Doo WAKE 155 is the preferred watercraft of Team Nike wake skater Nick Taylor. Taylor favors the WAKE 155 model for its economical operation and shallow water capabilities versus traditional boats and also its quick turnarounds and pick-ups thanks to the exclusive iBR system. Reliability is perhaps the most important standard feature for Taylor as he has amassed over 670 hours of saltwater use on his WAKE 155 watercraft over the past five years, an amount that would take the average owner over 19 years to accumulate.

Sea-Doo James Bushell Virginia

Pro Open Winner – James Bushell

The Sea-Doo X-TEAM has hit a hot streak on racing circuits around North America over the middle weekends of July with James Bushell and Troy Snyder leading the way on the IJSBA US National Racing Tour in the Pro Open class and Pro Stock class respectively.

Both racers won their respective Pro classes at both the Reno, Nevada and Colonial Beach, Virginia rounds of the Hydroturf National Tour aboard their Sea-Doo RXP-X models and both sit in solid positions to claim National Championships with two rounds to go.

Bushell is the defending 2X Pro Open and Pro GP World Champion and is making his first attempt at winning the US National Tour after claiming multiple European and Dubai titles. He is from the UK where his BRP dealership 158Performance supports his efforts with tuning of Les Cooke of the Sea-Doo Centre. Bushell has found his rhythm in the states and nearly lapped the field in his final moto in Virginia with fellow RXP-X mounted Erminio Iantosca joining him on the podium.

Pro Stock Winner - Troy Snyder

Pro Stock Winner – Troy Snyder

Snyder is the wily veteran of the tour at the age of 41 with his RIVA Racing backed Sea-Doo RXP-X has carrying him to solid wins over defending National and World Champion Eric Francis. Snyder rides the same watercraft performance enthusiasts can buy off the showroom floor with the midas touch of well-known tuner Bo Dupriest of Neptune Racing giving his RXP-X the edge.

The next two rounds will be extremely competitive as tour visits Georgia before culminating in West Virginia. More top level Sea-Doo X-TEAM competitors are expected to participate int he final two rounds where the racing will be intense.

AquaX Overall Winner Jeremy Schandelmayer

AquaX Overall Winner Jeremy Schandelmayer

In the second round of the new P1 AquaX series taking place on Florida’s Lake Okeechobee, Sea-Doo X-TEAM riders claimed the top podium positions in both the 300 and 250 classes. Sea-Doo X-TEAM rider Jeremy Schandelmayer rode his Sea-Doo RXP-X to a clean sweep over the weekend claiming the overall win and the 300 class (251-300 horsepower) win on the wide open course in calm conditions. This was Schandelmayer’s first AquaX race but will not be his last as he walked away with over $$1200 in prize money and Sea-Doo Bounty contingency funds. Taking the second spot in the 300 class was Kevin Wassum who just recently starting competing on his Sea-Doo RXP-X, the same watercraft he won by being named the Sea-Doo Ultimate Fan in 2011.

The P1 AquaX series is built for new racers and old in a format that focusses on safety with wide open, endurance courses piggy backing the Evinrude powered P1 Superstock boat races in arguably the most professionally produced races in the UK and US. All watercraft must remain completely stock with only cosmetic changes allowed. The 250 class (200-250 horsepower) win was claimed by industry veteran Tim McKercher on a Sea-Doo GTR 215. This was McKercher’s first organized race in over 17 years as the AquaX format makes competing safe and affordable for the everyday performance enthusiast.

X-TEAM TUESDAY – P1 AQUA X BRINGS NEW FACES TO SEA-DOO RACING

Sea-Doo X-TEAM AquaX DaytonaAshley Sponaugle is a Sea-Doo watercraft enthusiast. Ashely is the proud owner of a Sea-Doo RXP-X. She owns a RXP-X because she is a go fast type of girl. When the opportunity to compete in an actual watercraft race against other first timers, her competitive juices rose to the top. The other element that attracted her to the P1 AquaX series in Florida was that all competitors must ride stock model PWC in three different classes, determined by stock horsepower ratings. No modifications were allowed, meaning no money spent on modifying the units putting everyone on equal footing.

Former Pro watercraft racer Lisa Barsby began the P1 AquaX racers in her home land, the United Kingdom to bring in a new group of people into the PWC racing family. Racing stock units opens the door to many riders who simply aren’t interested in spending money to modify their watercraft that they enjoy riding casually every weekend. The format mixes closed course racing with endurance in a simplistic track layout that is easy to follow and provides wide open areas to navigate while minimizing tight cornering sections. This format is what drew Sponaugle, Ultimate Sea-Doo Fan contest winner Kevin Wassum and many other first timers to compete in the first of what BRP hopes is many P1 Aqua X events in the United States.

ERic Lagopoulos Wins Daytona AquaX

Overall winner Eric Lagopoulos

The first P1 Aqua X event was conducted in Daytona Beach, Florida in challenging surf and saw the majority of the participants competing for the first time…ever. It was a veteran racer, Eric Lagopoulos who took the overall win on a Sea-Doo RXP-X but for the dozen first timers it was a victory in simply being a part of it. Most noted that the racing bug has now bit them and they look forward to riding their Sea-Doo in future competitions. Watercraft racing has existed since the early 1980s but it hasn’t been since the recent growth of the HydroDrag drag racing series and now the P1 AquaX series that new faces have experienced what Sea-Doo watercraft can provide those with the competitive spirit.

X-TEAM TUESDAY – HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW WHAT RACING A SEA-DOO IS LIKE

Screen Shot 2013-05-14 at 2.28.28 PMThere is a moment for every person who sits at the controls of a engine powered vehicle where they want to race. Maybe this urge isn’t everyday but it happens. Waiting for the light to turn green and get the jump on the car beside you, riding next to your brother or sister or good friend and you nudge the throttle just ever so slightly to gain the leading position.  Or maybe you are a full fledged racer at heart and take every opportunity to get from point A to point B faster than everybody else.

Riding a Sea-Doo may spur this urge a bit more than the average vehicle. After all, Sea-Doo watercraft are breed to be performers and in the arena of professional watercraft racing has dominated closed course races around the world. You may have thought about racing but don’t know where to go and aren’t interested in buying a lot of race specific parts or modifying your very reliable, stock Sea-Doo watercraft. And maybe lining up to a veteran racer may seem intimidating. But that burning desire to feed your competitive side hungers every time you squeeze the throttle lever of your Sea-Doo watercraft.

For PWC owners in the United Kingdom and the southeastern United States, specifically Florida, comes a new PWC event the P1 Aqua Cross series. This is a new form of PWC racing that is open to only riders with completely stock watercraft. Its the ultimate, “run what you brung” racing. The courses are also much less complex and open than traditional closed course races that one may see at the IJSBA World Finals.  Multi-time world champion watercraft racer Lisa Barsby of the UK developed this series in the UK to bring a new crowd to the family sport she loves. Barsby address the barriers keeping current owners from racing. The goal of Aqua Cross racing is to make it easy, safer, affordable, and fun for anyone and everyone with a PWC.

The classes are broken down by stock horsepower ratings to allow every category of PWC to compete head-to-head on equal equipment. There are three main categories offered, 300 hp, 250+hp, and 200+hp.  other than a PWC all anybody needs is protective riding gear, and a set of racing numbers.

The US events include:

June 15 & 16 – Daytona, Florida

July 20 & 21 – Pahookee, Florida

August 17 & 18 – Cocoa Beach, Florida

September 14 & 15 – Marathon, Florida

The UK events include:

June 1-2 – Hull

June 29-30 – Plymouth

July 13 & 14 – Eastborn Extreme

August 10 & 11 – Torquay

DR. DOO – KEEP YOUR SEA-DOO COVERED

As spring has arrived for most of the northern hemisphere, Sea-Doo owners are prepping their watercraft and boats for the upcoming boating season and removing the shrink wrap and storage covers. We are sure it brings a smile across your face to uncover your Sea-Doo after a long winter hibernation. This is the time to give it a good wash and pre-season service to ensure everything is loose where it is supposed to be loose and tight where components are supposed to be tight.

After you go through the process of getting it ready for the season…cover it back up.

Screen Shot 2013-04-24 at 9.42.54 AMWe know just the sight of of your Sea-Doo brings joy to your heart but keeping it covered will bring that joy for a long time to come. With the arrival of spring comes more intense sun, and though all BRP products are engineered to withstand UV rays, the sun is powerful and exposure can manipulate colors and can dry materials over time.  Also, you may have heard of the term, “April showers bring May flowers”. This is great for your garden but not in the footwells of your watercraft. Covering your watercraft will also keep out any animals that may be looking for a place to nest.

To ensure your Sea-Doo is protected from the outside world and kept clean, utilize a custom fitted Sea-Doo watercraft cover. Whether your Sea-Doo is kept on a dock hoist, on a trailer on the side of the house, or in the resort parking lot BRP offers a form fitting cover. These covers are designed to securely wrap around the bond rail on the hull side, hold secure on the handlebars, and clip onto the rub rail holding it in place while trailering at speed.

Bottom line, when you are not on your Sea-Doo, keep it nice and tucked in by covering it up with the proper cover.
