When championship Sea-Doo racer Eric Lagopoulos isn’t in hot pursuit of his next win and triumphant appearance on the winner’s podium, you can find him living the Sea-Doo life on the west coast of Florida where he spends his days running his popular waterfront restaurant “The WaterfrontToo” and enjoying his Sea-Doo in a more relaxed and leisurely fashion.

Eric Lagopoulos aboard the #361 Sea-Doo GTR 215

Onboard: Your fans know you well from your multiple wins and your racing fame including your most recent trip to the winner’s podium at the 2015 AquaX, but what would surprise them to learn about you?

Eric: At a young age I had the opportunity to get involved in the family restaurant business and I jumped on it! Today, I now own “The WaterfrontToo” Grille & Steakhouse, a spin-off of the original “Waterfront” restaurant my family established in Sarasota. It’s a 250-seat seafood and steakhouse in Nokomis. I’m proud of what we have accomplished, especially being recognized for our signature hand-cut steaks and fresh fish as well as for our slow-cooked prime rib which is the best in town! We also cater to water enthusiasts – they can access the restaurant by water and pull up and dock for an evening of dining fun waterside.

Onboard: When not in the heat of racing season, what’s a typical day for you like?

Eric:  My typical day would be to wake-up and either work-out or go riding.  I try to ride three to five days a week to stay in shape for the grueling Aqua Cross season – which is fast approaching!  After prepping for competition on my Sea-Doo – so I can continue to win titles, I then head over to the restaurant. Since it is only open for dinner, it provides me with tremendous schedule flexibility. This allows me to fit my race training schedule around owning and operating my restaurant.

Eric and Sea-Doo: Inseparable even on days off! (Photo Credit: Eric Lagopoulos Facebook)

Onboard: Your Sea-Doo is a major component of your life on and off the race circuit. How do you like to spend your “off” days?

Eric:  My perfect “non-racing” day on my Sea-Doo would be going to a place I’ve ridden to my entire life, a place called Bayside. It’s on the northern end of Longboat Key, and it is one of my favorite spots because it makes for easy access to the Gulf of Mexico. On a perfect day, there would be three to five-foot surf – which offers me and my buddies awesome launches all day long! And when not on my Sea-Doo, you can find me enjoying other water sports including wake boarding and surfing.

2015 AquaX Champion, Eric Lagopoulos

Onboard: Thank you for taking us through a day in your Sea-Doo life, now circling back to racing – can you share with us what’s new for the 361 team in 2016?

Eric:  The 361 team will have a cool new title sponsor for 2016, Von Vape! I’m really excited to partner with this company, they are local and have a long history of boat racing in the family! Von Vape will be joined by Sea-Doo, Riva, Hydroturf, Fly, and Jetpilot in keeping me on top of the podium!

BRP thanks Eric Lagopoulos for his time and dedication to the pursuit of PWC racing glory aboard Sea-Doo. You can follow Eric on his Facebook page.

AquaX Champion, Eric Lagopouls

Eric Lagopoulos claimed his second consecutive AQUAX series championship on a Sea-Doo GTR 215.

The championship was not determined until the final moto of the final race of the six event series, a year where the GTR 215 was the most popular model of the 250 class, Lagopoulos piloted the #361 consistently to podium spots an ultimately his second AquaX title.

After dozens of titles from around the world, Eric Lagopoulos has little to prove other than he can still win and win riding a Sea-Doo taken from the showroom floor against competitive factory supported teams. Lagopoulos has been in the sport of watercraft racing for over 20 years yet carries the youthful enthusiasm and drive to compete at the highest level of professional watercraft racing winning on what is fast becoming the sport’s biggest stage. We caught up with him to get some insight on his 2015 run.

Eric Lagopoulos aboard the #361 Sea-Doo GTR 215

Eric Lagopoulos aboard the #361 Sea-Doo GTR 215

OnBoard: Can you describe your 2015 AquaX season in one sentence?

Lagopoulos: “It was an incredibly exciting season filled with ups and downs but when it  came down to who was destined to be on top the season ended in pure satisfaction with the X-TEAM’s second championship in two-years!”

OnBoard: Why was the GTR 215 your craft of choose for the 250 class?

Lagopoulos: “The Sea-Doo GTR 215 is nimble in the surf and great in the flat and handles both with precision while being forgiving at the same time. It’s fast too and the reliability obviously helped us finish every race up front which is what you need to win championships over a grueling Aquacross season.”

OnBoard: Does the GTR 215 have an advantage over competitor models in regard to AquaX?

Lagopoulos: “I’ve had so much success on the GTR 215 in regards to Aquacross because of the different conditions each round. I mean is good in every condition. The GTR 215 is good in the flat water, good in chop, and good in the big surf races. It’s a watercraft that you can ride hard no matter where its ridden.”

bugOnBoard: What was the most memorable moment of the year, other than the last moto of the season?

Lagopoulos: “I had a really cool moment Sunday before the races as a ladybug landed on my arm and I knew it would be my weekend!”

Onboard: That isn’t exactly what we were looking for… so lets go straight to the dramatic moment Sunday. Can you tell us what was going on in your head in the last moto when you knew you had to beat one person to win?

Lagopoulos: “I really love the mental side of the sport, so knowing I had to beat one rider for the overall championship was really exciting! I pushed the entire race from the drop of the green flag to the beautiful checkered flag and my second Aquacross championship in a row! It was a tight race figuratively and literally. The GTR 215 simply proved it’s the better overall watercraft.”

Onboard: What’s next?

Lagopoulos: “I’m considering some really cool new opportunities in racing that I will be announcing in the near future so be sure to follow me on Facebook and on Twitter @Lagopolous and Instagram @lagopoulos1!”

Nashville, Tennessee Sept. 18, 2015 – BRP charges into 2016 building on the successful launch of the Sea-Doo SPARK as the industry’s most accessible watercraft and introduces new technologies and designs that take riding to the next level emphasizing the Sea-Doo legacy of being on the forefront of innovation.

WhatsNewBRP continues to perfect the Science of Fun with the introduction of the new 300-hp Rotax 1630 ACE engine powering the 2016 Sea-Doo RXT-X 300, RXP-X 300 and GTX Limited 300 models and adding the Ergolock seat to all RXT and GTX models with many models receiving a redesign of the storage area providing up to three times the overall storage volume. All 2016 models will now have the new second-generation iBR (intelligent Brake & Reverse) system and new, trend leading coloration including three new delicious colors for the 2016 Sea-Doo SPARK.

 NEW ROTAX 1630 ACE ENGINE

To feed the larger engine more air a new, re-designed supercharger with a faster spinning 32-blade wheel (double the blades of the previous version) has been added producing 30% more intake boost. A new larger intercooler provides a more dense air charge and aids in increased airflow and features a new air fin design for improved heat transfer utilizing a smart design with long life aluminum alloys for better corrosion protection. New ignition curves have been developed to efficiently match the increased air boost with the output of the larger fuel injectors leading to the 15% increase in horsepower in the 2016 Sea-Doo RXT-X 300, GTX Limited 300 and RXP-X 300 models. The 2016 RXP-X 300 sets the new standard at the next level now with industry’s best power-to-weight ratio.

ERGOLOCK SEAT NOW ON MORE MODELS

BRP designers have applied the science of rider centric ergonomics learned in the laboratory and from the recent Sea-Doo closed-course racing success as the race-proven Sea-Doo Ergolock seat of the RXP-X model has been adapted to more models for 2016. The Ergolock seat is optimized to fit a variety of riders and utilizes a narrower, slim profile design between the legs with body-molded knee pockets allowing riders to sit in a more natural position and leverage leg muscles to grip the watercraft. It also allows the rider to connect with the watercraft better and use the entire body to hold on rather than only the upper-body, thus improving comfort, confidence and reducing upper body fatigue.

The new Ergolock seat is available on all Sea-Doo RXT and GTX models and the WAKE PRO 215 model. On the RXT and WAKE PRO 215 models, the Ergolock seat lets riders leverage leg muscles to grip the watercraft for better control. The GTX models feature the Ergolock seat with stepped design for more comfort while touring and confidence while turning. The stepped design implements sculpted, rising seat levels for better passenger vision and lateral support. Added surrounding lumbar cushioning for up to three riders holds them in place better with more comfort in all conditions.

The 2016 Sea-Doo RXT-X 300 receives the full Ergolock system. In addition to the sculpted seat optimized for better transition between sit-down riding and standing, it includes the Adjustable Ergonomic Steering (A.E.S.) handlebar and angled footwell wedges, that have been proven to benefit in aggressive cornering and are equally beneficial in connecting to the watercraft in choppy, open-water, straight-line riding. The added ability for the rider to feel better connected to the      RXT-X 300 delivers better control and less fatigue allowing the rider to utilize the available power more efficiently and more confidently. The WAKE PRO 215, non-suspension RXT and GTX models with new Ergolock seat also adds wet storage under Sea-Doo’s exclusive removable watertight storage bin for over three times more total storage capacity than the previous generation with 162 liters (42.8 US gallons) and a new larger glove box.

SECOND-GENERATION iBR

All 2016 Sea-Doo models will be equipped with the second-generation iBR that sets the standard for intuitive operation and improves on the industry’s first braking system. The new iBR allows you to stop close to 48.75 m (160-feet)1 sooner than deceleration without braking. The Sea-Doo iBR system is the first and only braking system recognized by the USCG since 2009 for contributing to recreational boating safety and is now even better with a stronger gear drive motor and larger, reengineered brake gate. The intuitive iBR system adds to the rider centric design approach providing maximum control and a more natural reaction in all situations.

PALM REST GRIPS

All 2016 Sea-Doo models will be equipped with new handlebar grips that feature a flared surface acting as a palm rest for a better ergonomic fit for the hand added comfort during extended riding.

SPARKING MORE FUN

The Sea-Doo SPARK continues to be the industry’s most accessible and affordable watercraft making the dream of owning a watercraft possible now. The Sea-Doo SPARK has contributed to 20% industry growth in its introduction year2 and returns in 2up and 3up3 models and is available with the Rotax 900 ACE and Rotax 900 HO ACE marine engine packages. In 2016, the Sea-Doo SPARK is easy to personalize with three new delicious colors; Blueberry, Key Lime, and Chili Pepper, joining the Pineapple and Vanilla colorations and six new graphic kits expanding on the dozens of graphic kit options available. For 2016, models equipped with the iBR system will also come with the Convenience Package Plus that includes the Sea-Doo SPARK Front Storage Bin Kit that flows with contours of the design, the Sea-Doo Step for easier reboarding and the Digitally Encoded Security System (RF D.E.S.S. Key) that allows for greater security from theft and unauthorized use.

The Sea-Doo SPARK watercraft is more affordable4 and more fuel-efficient5 than any other model in the industry. Plus, the durable Polytec material of its hull and deck is solid while being recyclable, making it a more eco-friendly watercraft. The compact design of the Sea-Doo SPARK and lightweight construction makes it easy to own, easy to tow, simple to store and a blast to ride.

SEA-DOO ELEMENT JACKET AND PANTS

The engineering and design team at Sea-Doo introduces the leading edge Element Jacket and Pants for 2016, offering riders warmth and protection to extend riding season beyond the summer months. Brand advocates of both genders will transition from land to water in chic styling. The windproof material with Teflon water-repellent treatment has a laminated membrane that is designed to be both water resistant and breathable. For added comfort during colder days, the jacket and pants are lined with brushed-knit polyester thermal fleece. A relaxed fit allows enough room for the rider’s favorite Sea-Doo boardshorts and the pre-shaped legs are designed for multiple riding positions. The Element Pants add on to the functionality and styling of the Element Jacket with additional exterior pockets to carry essentials. The new Element Jacket and Pants offer Sea-Doo enthusiasts casual and functional gear that matches the unique design of Sea-Doo watercraft and will get their hearts pounding.

7 Basic Tips for Sea-Doo Towing

You’ve been eyeing the next addition to your personal Sea-Doo line up. How can you have more fun on the water? The solution—WAKE. The Watercraft Journal recently reviewed the WAKE 155 model stating, “In perfect Sea-Doo fashion, the PWC manufacturer equipped with their Wake units with so much innovation and features that the segment has become one of the brand’s most popular in recent years. Branching further than mere wakeskate and wakeboard riders, the Wake models appeal to families using the craft for whipping towables around their local lake or river.”

Wake 155_13279_MY15

So you’ve made the decision and your new Wake model is home. You can’t wait to get out on the water. One of two things come to mind. It’s either, “I have never towed someone before. How do I do that? What’s right and wrong;” or “I’ve got this, let’s go.” Whichever way, safety is important so here are 7 basic tips for Sea-Doo towing.

1. Know your local laws before towing. Most states require that the watercraft is a 3-passenger with mirrors, with a driver and a spotter. Some states require safety signal devices.  Check www.boatus.org for the laws in your state.

2. Make sure your rope is secure to the watercraft, either a ski pylon or tow eye in the rear of the watercraft. Do not tie ski rope to anything that was not manufactured to be used as a tow point.

3. Take note of a person’s ability. Driver’s should practice without a skier, and focus on smooth accelerations and maintaining a steady speed. On Wake models (WAKE 155 & WAKE Pro 215), SKI mode is a standard feature and can be turned on to accomplish this. SKI mode is an advanced iControl feature that allows the driver to adjust the intensity of the launch for different rider skill levels and tow sports while maintaining a constant speed. You get 5 acceleration profiles for the best possible tow sports experience.

WAKE Pro 215

4. Once your skier is in the water, take the slack out of the rope. Begin idling once the slack is tight.  Then when the skier signals that they are ready to go, accelerate enough to pull the skier up on the top of the water. Get to your preferred speed and maintain that speed.

5. Always look forward, not behind at the skier, that is the spotters job.

6. When the skier is done or falls, come down to an idle, slowly turnaround without running the rope over, maintain a steady, slow speed back to your skier. Loop around behind them so they can reach the rope, and start all over again making sure you never aim straight at your rider, always stay to the left or right of them during your approach.

2015 SEA-DOO WAKE PRO 215_ACTION27. Signals for sking: thumbs up (faster), thumbs down (slower), fist on your head means you are done and you are going to let go of the rope (stop).

Last you heard, we were planning our Ultimate Beach Party with Devin SuperTramp this past May. We wouldn’t be giving it proper justice if we said it was anything less than a total and complete blast. Nothing is more fun than living the Sea-Doo life with beautiful weather and great friends. While we were stoked to work with Devin on another great video, we were just as excited about including the winner from the Ultimate Beach Party contest, Trevor Soety (@the_trevorsoety & Trevor Soety Channel), and two of his closest friends who joined us in May for the ultimate fun at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach, FL.

Trevor Soety, Winning Image Not only did Trevor get to hang out with the Sea-Doo crew and Devin, he won a 2015 SPARK! Trevor’s new addition is the first PWC he has owned and we were more than happy to share his experience with all of our Sea-Doo fans.

—

‘For me, winning the Ultimate Beach Party contest was an amazing experience. I got to meet Devin Graham, which gave me the chance to be in one of his SuperTramp videos. He actually said something pretty impactful to me while we were filming; “anything worth doing is worth doing right,” this really hit close to home.

After winning my new SPARK in Orange Crush, it brought so much fun into my life. I’ve been able to take my SPARK scalloping and even picked up wakeskating. Trevor Soety 2015 Sea-Doo PARKWhat’s even better is the bet I had with one of my friends about this contest. If I won and got the new SPARK, my buddy would buy one too. Guess what? I won! Riding it is such a blast, I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to buy a personal watercraft.

I want to say thanks to Sea-Doo, Devin SuperTramp, and the Sea-Doo community which includes all of the fans that submitted videos or photos for the beach party contest.’ — Trevor Soety

You’ve decided to make the next step and join the Sea-Doo Family. It’s a big moment, to be ready for so much more adventure in the water, and to know that the Sea-Doo watercraft you choose will be creating memories for yourself, friends and family that will last. Before heading to the dealer, it’s a good idea to have a few things in mind so that you can be sure that, with so many options, you’re able to choose the right one for you!

The Sea-Doo site has a pretty great tool called Find Your Sea-Doo. It makes a suggestion based on the preferences you select.

Sea-Doo_PWC_Family

What to Consider:

1. Riding Style –Here, you’re looking at three choices, and each comes with a helpful image in case you’re uncertain of which you’d prefer:
Spark-PlayfulPlayful – the rider that wants to go out, have loads of fun on a nimble craft and get a little wet while they’re at it.
Aggressive – this rider prefers to take on the waves at full speed with all of the power, performance, and technology available.
Relaxed – And, there are those who just want to cruise. This rider’s looking for luxury while they set their sights on new destinations and take in the waterways.

GTISeating2. Seating – In this section, you’ll choose between one to three seats. Generally, one-seaters are lighter and more nimble than three-seaters. And, if you’re planning to use your watercraft for towing, law requires three seats for the operator, spotter, and person being towed.

3. Riding Time – This takes into account each session on your watercraft which can be a challenge to decide on if you’re a first time owner. A good way to figure this out is to base your riding time on the amount of time that you will have available to spend on the water. After work? All day on the weekends? These basic questions will give good guidance.

RXPXSpeed4. Water Type – This preference combined with your riding style, will help suggest: the size of watercraft you may need along with whether you should get suspension.

5. Speed – Here, you’ll be telling the tool if you’re happy at a nice steady pace, or if you speed is a necessity in your life. This will better suggest the size engine for your riding style.

GTXComfort6. Comfort – Used along with the other categories, this will help to suggest a ride that has the right amount of stability and technology for your needs.

7. Maneuvering & Handling – Ease of handling your watercraft will be important. And, this will help determine the amount of control you need depending on whether you want to take tight turns on a dime, stop quickly, or dock in a matter of seconds with iBR technology.

TowSports8. Tow Sports – This preference is as straightforward as it sounds and the selection will help match you with a watercraft that gives the support you need for tow sports.

Ready to have your go, and Find Your Sea-Doo? Check out the tool here, and let us know in the comments if it lines up with what you had in mind for your dream Sea-Doo watercraft.

2015-SEA-DOO-GTR-215-ACTION-8

After a cold and extended winter, we cannot be more excited to reunite with some warm weather and get back to riding! If you winterized your watercraft with the basic maintenance, you’re in great shape to get back to the water with minimal prep. Here are a few quick tips to ensure the best performance of your Sea-Doo watercraft and maximum fun this summer.

After bringing your Sea-Doo watercraft out of hibernation, it’s a good practice to Clean & Detail to prevent sun damage and remove contaminates from the water.

  • c0c824a40d95c98a5fef9ecf825b18aeGrab the hose and rinse off with the XPS Boat and PWC Wash and Wax. Made exclusively for Sea-Doo watercraft, this material-safe product will bring back that showroom shine.
  • The long winter months can take a toll on your vinyl seats creating mold and grime from the moisture. Use the XPS vinyl cleaner to help restore your vinyl seat and handlebar pad.
  • Once your Sea-Doo watercraft is looking new again, grab the XPS microfiber towel to avoid scratching and polish to perfection.

BASIC INSPECTION ROUTINE
A clean ride also needs to be a ‘healthy’ ride. Before starting the season, be sure to perform a thorough inspection to make sure that all your watercraft parts are functioning properly. A basic check-up includes the following:

  • Inspect all fuel and water lines for cracks or any other types of damage. Always replace any lines that you notice with damage before riding.
  • Check all electrical connections for damage or build up. If any damages are noticed be sure to have them repaired. For build-up, a good cleaning will help reset for riding season.
  • t329_cd4cdc58b4cabb59dde74ad985e31d0fIf you did not change the oil and oil filter before winterizing, spring-cleaning provides the best opportunity to do this. The XPS 4-stroke Maintenance and Oil Change Kit includes XPS oil, an oil filter, three NGK spark plugs and an instruction sheet.
  • Spark plugs can develop residue or collect moisture over the winter due to the cold. Check and change your spark plugs if necessary.
  • Make sure your battery has been properly charged and reinstall the battery into your Sea-Doo watercraft.
  • 2015-SEA-DOO-RXP-X-260---STUDIO-AES_SteeringThe controls should be checked for proper movement. This includes (steering, steering cable, throttle, throttle cable and iBR, lever). If they stick, use the XPS lUBE so that they move freely.
  • Double-check that your Sea-Doo watercraft is running correctly by connecting it to a hose. Start the engine and run for no longer than two minutes.
  • If you run into any questions during the Spring-cleaning process, always refer to your Sea-Doo owner’s manual or ask your authorized Sea-Doo dealer.

Following these simple steps will ensure that you have the best riding season that you can. Now, it’s time to have some fun! Do you have additional pre-riding rituals to share? Share them with us.

NAME: Paul Green
AGE: 48 years old
PORT: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
FAMILY: Single

Where did you grow up and how was your competitive spirit developed?

Paul – Growing up in Toronto Canada, I spent my childhood summers on Georgian Bay enjoying various watersports and outdoor activities. My father got me into amateur boxing at a young age, which taught me how to be mentally strong and compete

What do you do away from the water to stay on the water? What’s your profession?

Paul – I currently own a private investigation business in Toronto, and I’m a Certified Fraud Examiner CFE.

Being self – employed and having a flexible work schedule, allows me to travel and pursue my racing career. The experience I’ve gained through running my own business, has helped me manage my racing career.

How were you introduced to watersports?

Paul – My first introduction into watersports was waterskiing at our cottage as a child. That would lead to working as a lifeguard and later teaching competitive swimming to youths. My first PWC was a Wet Jet 432 that handled like a tank!

Since you began competing what are some of your accolades?

Paul – My first season competing on a runabout was 2014. I raced the CWA Watercross Tour in the newly formed Runabout Rec Lights Class. I was dominant in the class and won the overall title. I also won the Master Ski Stock overall title.

Picture 1What is it about the Sea-Doo SPARK that enticed you to race this new model?

Paul – Initially, I purchased the SPARK as a fun boat for the weekends. After spending sometime on the boat, I realized the boats potential as a viable race craft. I began working on the machine and started promoting it within the watercraft community. Not long after, SPARKs began showing up at the races and a new class was born.

What kind of support team do you have behind you and what does it entail?

Paul – I am lucky to have Riva Racing, Sea-Doo X-TEAM, and Solas as sponsors. I have been testing with Riva and assisting them in developing new performance products for the SPARK. My girlfriend, Rachel Thomas, has also been instrumental in my success on and off the water. No one wins titles by themselves.

Your accomplishments riding watercraft have opened the doors for other action opportunities. What “extra” perks have you enjoyed from being a pro racer?

Paul – I have traveled extensively with the sport and have enjoyed the experience greatly. This past summer, I had the opportunity to take up wake surfing thanks to my family which is a blast. I also try to attend as many Monster Energy Supercross races as I can each season. Getting the recognition as an X-Team member is a thrill.

Where is your favorite PWC race site?

Paul – I enjoy the Ocean race sites, particularly the Florida stops with the warm water and ever changing surf. Racing surf forces the rider to use all their skills in order to be successful. The Ocean levels out the playing field.

What is it about PWC racing that keeps you coming back?

Paul – I started racing PWC’s in the late 80’s and have enjoyed competing both as a privateer and as a factory backed rider in the 90’s. The thing that keeps me coming back to the sport is the constant innovations to the watercraft. I find the technology fuels my passion and I’m constantly being forced to learn new things. The clean burning 4 strokes of today are superior to the 2 stroke technologies of yesterday.

Where is your favorite non-racing, riding location?

Paul – I really enjoy riding in South Florida and the Florida Keys. The natural beauty of the area can’t be beat. Surf riding at the Sebastian Inlet in Florida is always eventful too! Watching Dolphins and Sharks share the water as you ride is an awesome sight to see.

What is or has been YOUR favorite part of being part of the Sea-Doo X-TEAM

Paul – My favorite part of being on the Sea-Doo X-Team is being part of a professional group of racers who have similar focus and goals. The comradery and friendships formed are the best part of the team. The opportunity to showcase my riding skills with other high level athletes is great.

Picture 9What are you racing right now and what are looking forward to, and who is supporting your 2015 efforts?

Paul – I plan to ride a 2015 Sea-Doo SPARK and defend my CWA title in the Runabout Rec Lights class. I’m also exploring the possibility of racing a Sea-Doo RXP-X in the Pro Am Runabout Stock class. Riva Racing, Sea-Doo and Solas will be my key sponsors for 2015. I’m looking forward to continued success in 2015 aboard Sea-Doo watercraft!

BRP thanks Paul Green for his time and dedication to the pursuit of PWC racing glory aboard Sea-Doo. You can follow Paul; on his Facebook page, www.facebook.com/paul.green.10004
