Orlando, Florida August 16, 2016 – BRP offers more performance watercraft options with two new 2017 Sea-Doo models  including the high value GTR 230 and new GTR-X 230 with Ergolock system. Both models will be powered by the new 230-hp Rotax 1500 HO ACE engine and join the RXT 260, RXT-X 300 and RXP-X 300 to further strengthen the strongest performance line-up in the watercraft industry.

The new Sea-Doo GTR-X 230 watercraft becomes the most affordable X-model (extra performance) and is powered by the new Rotax 1500 HO ACE engine that will push this new watercraft from idle to 60 mph (96,6 km/h) in 5.3 seconds, which is 2.4 seconds quicker than the closest competitive model1. The new GTR-X 230 model receives the complete Ergolock system that includes the Ergolock seat, Adjustable Ergonomic Steering (A.E.S.) handlebar, and angled footwell wedges. The Ergolock seat allows riders to hold onto the watercraft better by using their stronger leg muscles to squeeze the narrower seat, thus improving control and reducing upper body fatigue for a more confidence inspiring ride to push riding limits even further.

Powering the Sea-Doo GTR-X 230 and GTR 230 models is new Rotax 1500 HO ACE engine, designed with the Advanced Combustion Efficiency philosophy producing 15 more horsepower than its predecessor while maintaining minimal mass for strong power-to-weight performance. The advances in thermal dynamic cooling and overall refinement in the 1500 HO ACE engine elevates the nimble handling of the GTR platform to the next level of value-minded performance watercraft.

The new 230-hp Rotax 1500 HO ACE engine follows the 300-hp 1630 ACE engine innovation, including the plasma-coating technology for aluminum-block engines developed by a Rotax team in Gunskirchen, Austria. The plasma coating technology is a thermal spraying process that deposits a protective coating on engine cylinder walls to create a metallic layer that provides a hard and durable surface to withstand piston friction forces. It improves surface durability, while keeping the engine lighter and more compact with better heat transfer and superior performance, and reduced use of chemicals.

The Rotax ACE, or Advanced Combustion Efficiency, engines implement advancements in combustion and cooling efficiency that produce substantially more power without adding mass. The ACE philosophy aids the new Rotax 1500 HO ACE in producing 15 more horsepower power than the previous version to provide strong power-to-weight performance and is optimized for regular fuel resulting in more money saved at the gas station. While the new engine produces 15 more horsepower than its predecessor, fuel consumption remains on par. Adding to the innovation, the new Rotax 1500 HO ACE follows in the wake of it’s big brother, the Rotax 1630 ACE engine, with a maintenance free* supercharger.

All 2017 Sea-Doo performance models are equipped with the second-generation Intelligent Brake & Reverse (iBR), the intuitive braking system that reduces the stopping distance by nearly 160 feet (48.75 m) sooner2 than deceleration without braking. The Sea-Doo iBR is the first and only braking system recognized by the USCG (U.S. Coast Guard) since 2009 for contributing to recreational boating safety and adds to the rider-centric design approach providing maximum control in all conditions. The 2017 Sea-Doo performance models also include race-inspired features such as high-performance Variable Trim System (VTS), handlegrips with palm rest and race-inspired coloration and graphics.

New for 2017 is the Sea-Doo GTR-X 230, a mix of high-performance and high-value all combined in one stunning, California Green Metallic & Black two-seater. As the lowest priced Sea-Doo X-model, the GTR-X 230 is powered by the new Rotax 1500 HO ACE engine and is joined by the race-proven Ergolock system that inspires more confidence in all conditions. The GTR-X 230 rides upon the playful yet precise GTI hull and when coupled with the new 230-hp powerplant it turns from mild-mannered to superhero status at the pull of the throttle lever, leaping from 0-60 mph (96,6 km/h) in 5.3 seconds.

2017 Sea-Doo GTR-X 230 (right) and GTR 230 (left)

The GTR-X 230 with Ergolock system allows the rider to connect with the watercraft to become one with it, allowing the rider to push the limits even further. The narrower, lower body-molded seat, Adjustable Ergonomic Steering (A.E.S.) handlebar, and angled footwell wedges, provide added leverage in aggressive cornering and are equally beneficial in connecting to the watercraft in choppy, open-water, straight-line riding. Adding to rider control and confidence is the second-generation iBR that reduces the stopping distance of the watercraft by nearly 160 feet (48.75 m) and the Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) with three power delivery modes including Touring, Sport, and ECO to best match the riding activity. The 2017 Sea-Doo GTR-X 230 delivers the best of watercraft high-performance and high-value.

2017 SEA-DOO GTR 230

The 2017 Sea-Doo GTR 230 model receives a 15-horsepower boost from the new Rotax 1500 HO ACE engine elevating the fun factor on what was already argued to be the most versatile performance model in the industry. The GTR 230 provides a gateway into the Sea-Doo performance family with all the adrenaline-pumping fun one can hope for at an affordable price.

2017 Sea-Doo GTR-X 230 (right) and GTR 230 (left)

The Sea-Doo GTR 230 model is the new stronger version of what has been the preferred model of the reigning AQUAX US 250 class champion3. This model is based on the nimble yet predictable handling of the GTI platform while offering more power from the new Rotax 1500 HO ACE engine for a superior power-to-weight ratio. The GTR 230 watercraft is also fully equipped with the Sea-Doo iControl technologies including the iTC and second-generation iBR system, providing added control in tight quarter situations and allowing the rider to stop sooner for greater peace of mind. The Sea-Doo GTR 230 features: integrated infocenter, high-performance Variable Trim System (VTS) and 30.8 US gallons (116.6 liters) of storage and available in Black and Octane Blue.

2017 SEA-DOO RXP-X 300

The Sea-Doo RXP-X watercraft is the most decorated performance model in recent racing history, claiming the past five Pro Open and Pro GP World Championships. The 2017 RXP-X is the industry’s undisputed king of closed-course racing and boosts the industry’s best power-to-weight ratio thanks to the 300-horsepower Rotax 1630 ACE engine. The Rotax 1630 ACE power package provides greater mid-range power for better cornering speed and produces over 1G during hole shot acceleration from a stop.

2017 RXP-X 300

The T3 hull design offers one-of-a-kind handling allowing the RXP-X 300 model to aggressively lean into corners and penetrate chop better than any of its two-seater counterparts. T3 stands for “tight-turning T-hull” and uses an advanced, dual-running surface hull design with a unique combination of soft and hard chines, adjustable rear sponsons and performance trim tabs. The T3 hull combined with the Ergolock system allows the rider to lean further into corners, using more of the available power, with greater confidence and less effort to turn tighter and faster.

The Sea-Doo RXP-X 300 also includes the intuitive second-generation iBR providing the only braking system available on a high-performance two-seater for an enhanced level of rider control. The Sea-Doo RXP-X model has set the standard for precise handling and in 2017 is available in Lava Red and the modern Monolith Black Satin coloration or race-inspired White and Dayglow Yellow. No watercraft turns like the 2017 RXP-X 300 and no watercraft is as fun and rewarding as when pushing your riding limits further on the Sea-Doo RXP-X 300.

2017 SEA-DOO RXT-X 300

The combination of the Rotax 1630 ACE engine power and advanced ergonomics of the Ergolock system delivers a confidence-inspiring ride allowing you to push your limits even further on the 2017 Sea-Doo RXT-X 300. The 300-hp Rotax 1630 ACE engine delivers more torque providing more mid-range power to help maintain momentum when riding through heavy chop where the jet pump is continually reengaging with the water. The Rotax ACE power package provides greater throttle response in all conditions and is the most powerful engine ever offered in a Sea-Doo watercraft.

2017 Sea-Doo RXT-X 300

The 2017 RXT-X 300 integrates the race-proven Sea-Doo Ergolock system that allows the rider to connect with the watercraft better and use his entire body to hold on rather than only the upper-body, thus improving confidence and reducing upper body fatigue. The Ergolock seat, Adjustable Ergonomic Steering (A.E.S.) handlebar and angled footwell wedges, benefit in aggressive cornering and open-water, straight-line riding. The added ability for the rider to feel better connected to the RXT-X 300 delivers better control and less fatigue allowing the rider to utilize the available power more efficiently.

The performance three-seater provides wet storage under Sea-Doo’s exclusive removable watertight storage bin for a total storage capacity of 42.8 US gallons (162 liters)  including an ultra large glove box. The technical flowing edge designed top deck of the RXT-X model is complimented by the functionality of the stable and predictable S3 hull with adjustable rear sponsons. The RXT-X 300 watercraft is equipped with race-specific features including, digital infocenter with integrated lap timer and boost indicator and high-performance Variable Trim System (VTS). It also features the second-generation iBR adding to the level of rider control with the most intuitive operation and Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) systems with Touring, Sport and ECO modes. The 2017 Sea-Doo RXT-X 300 model is available in the two color variations of Lava Red and the modern Monolith Black Satin or race-inspired White and Dayglow Yellow.

 2017 SEA-DOO RXT 260

The 2017 Sea-Doo RXT 260 model is ideal for the weekend performance enthusiast looking for an exhilarating experience during longer rides. The three-seater with Ergolock seat ensures RXT 260 riders enjoy added control, comfort and confidence in all conditions with a form-fitting design for the driver and passengers.

2017 Sea-Doo RXT 260

SEA-DOO WAKE MODELS TAKE TOW SPORTS TO THE NEXT LEVEL WITH PERFECT BLEND OF COMFORT, FUN AND FUNCTIONALITY

BRP continues to offer the right watercraft for every type of watersports enthusiasts with two tow sports specific models in the 2016 Sea-Doo WAKE 155 and Sea-Doo WAKE PRO 215.

Both 2016 Sea-Doo WAKE models receive the new, second-generation Intelligent Brake & Reverse (iBR) providing a more responsive activation and faster braking. The WAKE PRO 215 model is redesigned with the adapted Ergolock seat for greater rider and passenger comfort.

Sea-Doo watercraft have been part of the wake board and wake skate scenes since their respective inceptions as the tow vehicle of choice for elite watersport athletes as well as providing the perfect instructional tow vehicle for amateurs and enthusiasts. The Sea‑Doo tow sport watercraft provide the best wake towing capabilities and are equipped with exclusive features developed specifically for tow sports such as Ski Mode, a removable wakeboard rack and a retractable ski pylon with spotter handles and rope strap. The exclusive Sea-Doo iBR system has also become a valuable tool for tow sports enthusiasts as the intuitive system provides added control for quick turn-around to pick up downed skiers. The second-generation iBR provides a more responsive activation through an improved gearbox motor and larger, reengineered brake gate. The new iBR reduces the stopping distance by close to 48.75 m (160-feet)1.

DCIM100GOPRO

BRP extends its support and long-standing relationship working with the NIKE wakeskate team riders to promote alternative watersports with Sea-Doo watercraft and to continually improve the WAKE models with engineering input. The tow-sport specific Sea-Doo WAKE 155 and WAKE PRO 215 models maintain their position as the watercraft of choice for elite NIKE wake skate team riders Ben Horan, Andrew Pastura, Nick Taylor, and Silas Thurman. In 2016, the Sea-Doo WAKE models continue to make a personal statement with new coloration and the WAKE PRO 215 rider environment being redesigned with the Ergolock seating and increased storage capacity.

Both 2016 Sea-Doo WAKE models include the exclusive Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) system and speed-based Ski Mode to fit wake boarders’ and wake skaters’ needs. This exclusive feature is engineered to make every driver an expert driver with the ability to program the acceleration curve and target speed for a consistent, perfect pull every time. You’ve been eyeing the next addition to your personal Sea-Doo line up. How can you have more fun on the water? The solution—WAKE. The Watercraft Journal recently reviewed the WAKE 155 model stating, “In perfect Sea-Doo fashion, the PWC manufacturer equipped with their Wake units with so much innovation and features that the segment has become one of the brand’s most popular in recent years. Branching further than mere wakeskate and wakeboard riders, the Wake models appeal to families using the craft for whipping towables around their local lake or river.”

So you’ve made the decision and your new Wake model is home. You can’t wait to get out on the water. One of two things come to mind. It’s either, “I have never towed someone before. How do I do that? What’s right and wrong;” or “I’ve got this, let’s go.” Whichever way, safety is important so here are 7 basic tips for Sea-Doo towing.

1. Know your local laws before towing. Most states require that the watercraft is a 3-passenger with mirrors, with a driver and a spotter. Some states require safety signal devices.  Check www.boatus.org for the laws in your state.

2. Make sure your rope is secure to the watercraft, either a ski pylon or tow eye in the rear of the watercraft. Do not tie ski rope to anything that was not manufactured to be used as a tow point.

3. Take note of a person’s ability. Driver’s should practice without a skier, and focus on smooth accelerations and maintaining a steady speed. On Wake models (WAKE 155 & WAKE Pro 215), SKI mode is a standard feature and can be turned on to accomplish this. SKI mode is an advanced iControl feature that allows the driver to adjust the intensity of the launch for different rider skill levels and tow sports while maintaining a constant speed. You get 5 acceleration profiles for the best possible tow sports experience.

WAKE Pro 215

4. Once your skier is in the water, take the slack out of the rope. Begin idling once the slack is tight.  Then when the skier signals that they are ready to go, accelerate enough to pull the skier up on the top of the water. Get to your preferred speed and maintain that speed.

5. Always look forward, not behind at the skier, that is the spotters job.

6. When the skier is done or falls, come down to an idle, slowly turnaround without running the rope over, maintain a steady, slow speed back to your skier. Loop around behind them so they can reach the rope, and start all over again making sure you never aim straight at your rider, always stay to the left or right of them during your approach.

You’ve decided to make the next step and join the Sea-Doo Family. It’s a big moment, to be ready for so much more adventure in the water, and to know that the Sea-Doo watercraft you choose will be creating memories for yourself, friends and family that will last. Before heading to the dealer, it’s a good idea to have a few things in mind so that you can be sure that, with so many options, you’re able to choose the right one for you!

The Sea-Doo site has a pretty great tool called Find Your Sea-Doo. It makes a suggestion based on the preferences you select.

Sea-Doo_PWC_Family

What to Consider:

1. Riding Style –Here, you’re looking at three choices, and each comes with a helpful image in case you’re uncertain of which you’d prefer:
Spark-PlayfulPlayful – the rider that wants to go out, have loads of fun on a nimble craft and get a little wet while they’re at it.
Aggressive – this rider prefers to take on the waves at full speed with all of the power, performance, and technology available.
Relaxed – And, there are those who just want to cruise. This rider’s looking for luxury while they set their sights on new destinations and take in the waterways.

GTISeating2. Seating – In this section, you’ll choose between one to three seats. Generally, one-seaters are lighter and more nimble than three-seaters. And, if you’re planning to use your watercraft for towing, law requires three seats for the operator, spotter, and person being towed.

3. Riding Time – This takes into account each session on your watercraft which can be a challenge to decide on if you’re a first time owner. A good way to figure this out is to base your riding time on the amount of time that you will have available to spend on the water. After work? All day on the weekends? These basic questions will give good guidance.

RXPXSpeed4. Water Type – This preference combined with your riding style, will help suggest: the size of watercraft you may need along with whether you should get suspension.

5. Speed – Here, you’ll be telling the tool if you’re happy at a nice steady pace, or if you speed is a necessity in your life. This will better suggest the size engine for your riding style.

GTXComfort6. Comfort – Used along with the other categories, this will help to suggest a ride that has the right amount of stability and technology for your needs.

7. Maneuvering & Handling – Ease of handling your watercraft will be important. And, this will help determine the amount of control you need depending on whether you want to take tight turns on a dime, stop quickly, or dock in a matter of seconds with iBR technology.

TowSports8. Tow Sports – This preference is as straightforward as it sounds and the selection will help match you with a watercraft that gives the support you need for tow sports.

Ready to have your go, and Find Your Sea-Doo? Check out the tool here, and let us know in the comments if it lines up with what you had in mind for your dream Sea-Doo watercraft.

DOCTOR DOO – GOING INTO THE SEA-DOO SEASON FULLY CHARGED

Sea-Doo fully chargedThe 2015 boating season is fast approaching and Sea-Doo owners are preparing for a full summer of family fun on the water. As you are taking your beloved Sea-Doo watercraft or boat out of hibernation there are some technical aspects that Father time may have had his way with over the past few dormant months. Your battery is where it all starts (or doesn’t start) and batteries can and do lose their ability to maintain a charge over time. But, there is another crucial component that can also lose its charge, your mandatory fire extinguisher.

sea-doo battery

The beginning of the season is the time to check both of these essential items as both your Sea-Doo watercraft battery and fire extinguisher can lose their charge over the winter months of inactivity. Regardless of age, your battery should be given a full charge as step one in pre-season prep.  Be sure to remove the battery from the PWC to avoid gas fumes and possible fire, and set it on a cleared work bench. Connect a battery charger to the battery and let charge over night (please refer to owners manual for exact charging procedures).  Most modern battery chargers include “fully charged” indicator and this indicator should inform you if the battery is accepting the charge  – meaning the battery is still good – or not. If the battery is not accepting the charge or holding the charge and shows signs of being weak after a 6+ hour charge, it is time to replace it with a new Sea-Doo specific battery from an authorized BRP/Sea-Doo dealership. Be sure to bring your old battery with you to your dealership so it can be properly and responsibly disposed of.

Every PWC, including Sea-Doo watercraft, must carry a fully charged fire extinguisher onboard at all times. This is for not only your safety but potentially the safety of others.

Sea-Doo Fire ExtinguisherBut you may ask, “why?” Why do I need a fire extinguisher on a watercraft when I am going to be surrounded by water? That is a fair question. The answer is you never know what can happen during a day of boating. If something were to happen where there was an open flame while you were riding you would be able to extinguish it. Having a fully charged fire extinguisher on board can also be very helpful when encountering another vessel with an open flame situation. The Coast Guard and local boating law enforcement agencies check fire extinguishers to ensure they are up to date and fully charged. The best rule of thumb is, if your fire extinguisher doesn’t have an actual pressure gauge, is to replace it every year.

Sea-Doo Safety KitAnd while we are discussing safety the Sea-Doo Safety Kit can also help you in, or out of, an unexpected situation. In case your friend didn’t replace his older battery, the kit includes a whistle that he can use to let you know he needs you to tow him back to shore with the buoyant 50′ nylon rope that is also included in the kit.  The Sea-Doo Safety Kit also includes a flashlight to help inspect the engine compartment and the container can be used as a bailer.

These three items should be first on your To Do list when preparing your Sea-Doo for the coming season and all three products can be purchased at an authorized BRP/Sea-Doo dealer. Check the Doctor Doo column of OnBoard for regular maintenance, service, and DIY tips to ensure you get the greatest reliability and most fun from your Sea-Doo watercraft.

Picture 3

NAME: Paul Green
AGE: 48 years old
PORT: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
FAMILY: Single

Where did you grow up and how was your competitive spirit developed?

Paul – Growing up in Toronto Canada, I spent my childhood summers on Georgian Bay enjoying various watersports and outdoor activities. My father got me into amateur boxing at a young age, which taught me how to be mentally strong and compete

What do you do away from the water to stay on the water? What’s your profession?

Paul – I currently own a private investigation business in Toronto, and I’m a Certified Fraud Examiner CFE.

Being self – employed and having a flexible work schedule, allows me to travel and pursue my racing career. The experience I’ve gained through running my own business, has helped me manage my racing career.

How were you introduced to watersports?

Paul – My first introduction into watersports was waterskiing at our cottage as a child. That would lead to working as a lifeguard and later teaching competitive swimming to youths. My first PWC was a Wet Jet 432 that handled like a tank!

Since you began competing what are some of your accolades?

Paul – My first season competing on a runabout was 2014. I raced the CWA Watercross Tour in the newly formed Runabout Rec Lights Class. I was dominant in the class and won the overall title. I also won the Master Ski Stock overall title.

Picture 1What is it about the Sea-Doo SPARK that enticed you to race this new model?

Paul – Initially, I purchased the SPARK as a fun boat for the weekends. After spending sometime on the boat, I realized the boats potential as a viable race craft. I began working on the machine and started promoting it within the watercraft community. Not long after, SPARKs began showing up at the races and a new class was born.

What kind of support team do you have behind you and what does it entail?

Paul – I am lucky to have Riva Racing, Sea-Doo X-TEAM, and Solas as sponsors. I have been testing with Riva and assisting them in developing new performance products for the SPARK. My girlfriend, Rachel Thomas, has also been instrumental in my success on and off the water. No one wins titles by themselves.

Your accomplishments riding watercraft have opened the doors for other action opportunities. What “extra” perks have you enjoyed from being a pro racer?

Paul – I have traveled extensively with the sport and have enjoyed the experience greatly. This past summer, I had the opportunity to take up wake surfing thanks to my family which is a blast. I also try to attend as many Monster Energy Supercross races as I can each season. Getting the recognition as an X-Team member is a thrill.

Where is your favorite PWC race site?

Paul – I enjoy the Ocean race sites, particularly the Florida stops with the warm water and ever changing surf. Racing surf forces the rider to use all their skills in order to be successful. The Ocean levels out the playing field.

What is it about PWC racing that keeps you coming back?

Paul – I started racing PWC’s in the late 80’s and have enjoyed competing both as a privateer and as a factory backed rider in the 90’s. The thing that keeps me coming back to the sport is the constant innovations to the watercraft. I find the technology fuels my passion and I’m constantly being forced to learn new things. The clean burning 4 strokes of today are superior to the 2 stroke technologies of yesterday.

Picture 5

Where is your favorite non-racing, riding location?

Paul – I really enjoy riding in South Florida and the Florida Keys. The natural beauty of the area can’t be beat. Surf riding at the Sebastian Inlet in Florida is always eventful too! Watching Dolphins and Sharks share the water as you ride is an awesome sight to see.

What is or has been YOUR favorite part of being part of the Sea-Doo X-TEAM

Paul – My favorite part of being on the Sea-Doo X-Team is being part of a professional group of racers who have similar focus and goals. The comradery and friendships formed are the best part of the team. The opportunity to showcase my riding skills with other high level athletes is great.

Picture 9What are you racing right now and what are looking forward to, and who is supporting your 2015 efforts?

Paul – I plan to ride a 2015 Sea-Doo SPARK and defend my CWA title in the Runabout Rec Lights class. I’m also exploring the possibility of racing a Sea-Doo RXP-X in the Pro Am Runabout Stock class. Riva Racing, Sea-Doo and Solas will be my key sponsors for 2015. I’m looking forward to continued success in 2015 aboard Sea-Doo watercraft!

BRP thanks Paul Green for his time and dedication to the pursuit of PWC racing glory aboard Sea-Doo. You can follow Paul; on his Facebook page, www.facebook.com/paul.green.10004

If getting there is half the fun, being there is the total experience. One of the attractions of boating is to gain a different perspective on interesting destinations; a perspective that many dream about. Sea-Doo watercraft make that dream obtainable and take the different perspective a step further as a Sea-Doo watercraft can go places a traditional boat can’t offering a truly unique recreational experience no matter what your destination.

There’s a reason we often talk about the Sea-Doo life, as it’s truly a lifestyle to embrace. What you experience, where you experience it, and whom you experience it with leads to memories of a lifetime, similar to family vacations, so why not combine the two? In this OnBoard entry we are going to share some of our favorite North American Sea-Doo destinations and how to make the most of your Sea-Doo life.

While you’re waiting for spring to arrive, let us help you get your Sea-Doo fix and give you some ideas towards planning a memorable Sea-Doo trip in 2015.

Lake Havasu City, Arizona

Topock Gorge

Topock Gorge

Our first destination is known around the world amongst enthusiasts as the home of the IJSBA World Finals championship watercraft races every October but for the southwest United States this is PWC heaven year round. The self-proclaimed, “Watercraft Capital of the World” lies on the Arizona side of the Colorado River looking west over California where the Parker Dam 20 miles south formed this man-made lake.

Not so long ago the town was simply a blip on the map but in the late 1960’s an entrepreneur named Robert McCulloch decided to develop tourism in the city by bringing the actual old London Bridge to the desert Oasis. The problem was there was no section of water for the bridge to span so he had a channel dug turning the city’s peninsula into a bridge and creating a true historical landmark that is the signature of the city today.

Lake Havasu is very watercraft friendly and offers miles of shoreline to explore from the Parker dam to the south up through the beautiful Topock gorge and beyond roughly 70 miles to Laughlin Nevada and the next dam in the system.

Accommodations: There are hundreds of vacation homes and condos to rent if you are staying with group or various hotels close to the bridge area.

DCIM100GOPROWhere to Launch: We suggest the Site Six public launch ramp on the southwest side of Fiesta Island or Windsor Beach State Park (entrance fee required).

Where to Eat: in town we recommend Shugrue’s for a consistently good, premium meal and while on the water we say make up the river to the I-40 bridge and dock at Topock 66 Spa & Resort for a great meal overlooking the water and passing by trains.

Ideal Sea-Doo model: The Sea-Doo GTI SE for all around watersports fun or either of the GTX Limited models for touring comfort.

Austin, Texas

Loop 360 launch ramp in Austin.

Loop 360 launch ramp in Austin.

Deep in the heart of Texas, Austin is known for being weird and citizens are proud of it, living by the mantra, “Keep Austin Weird.” Don’t take this as a negative but as endearing as this is arguably the most beautiful and diverse city in Texas and besides being the state’s capital is a college town, home to the university of Texas. The city is also known for it’s hip music scene and delicious Tex-Mex and BBQ dinning.

The city folk enjoy their outdoors and boating. The area offers two main boating options being Lake Travis and Lake Austin, which is essentially the Colorado River below the dam of Lake Travis. Lake Travis is a bustling waterway in the summer month although the past few years the water levels have been low meaning the on water activities have been condensed and limited. When water levels are normal there are miles of waterways and coves to have fun on.

Down below where the river runs through downtown is ideal for watercraft as the winding river provides a fun riding path.

IMG_3326Accommodations: There are plenty of hotels in the area but for a memorable Sea-Doo trip we suggest La Villa Vista Resort on Lake Travis. La Villa Vista has a bit of romance between European style and Texas flair.

Where to Launch: Lake Travis has a dozen public boat ramps and dozens more at private resorts, check the LCRA website for updates on usage related to water levels. For touring the river below, go to the Loop 360 launch off of the highway for which it’s named.

Where to Eat: In town we recommend Z’Tejas Avery Ranch for the city’s best Tex-mex and while on the water make a stop at the Oasis to enjoy some good grub while viewing the sunset. http://oasis-austin.com

Ideal Sea-Doo model: The Sea-Doo WAKE PRO 215 as versatility fits the local and with coves on the lake and the protected waters of the river providing ideal wakeskating venues you can’t go wrong here

Quebec City, Quebec

Sea-Doo perspective of Quebec City

Sea-Doo perspective of Quebec City

As the oldest city in Canada, Quebec City will offer you an experience as close to being in Europe with out having to ride across the pond. The little big city rests at the bottleneck of the St. Lawrence River and was a natural stop for immigrants making their way to the new world from Europe by sea. The city celebrated their 400 birthday a couple of years ago and the history can be felt throughout the downtown area, “inside the walls” a system of stone walls surrounding the city during times of unexpected attacks.

The stone buildings and cold weather friendly designed French architecture is felt throughout the area with the Chateau Frontenac, or known as the castle by Quebecers is the signature landmark of the city. There is plenty to see and do on land and also plenty to see on water, although you should plan a Sea-Doo trip in July or August, as the boating season in this northern city is short.

In addition to the breathtaking views of downtown there are numerous waterfalls and landmarks to see with in an hours ride including the infamous Grosse Isle where thousands of Irish immigrants were quarantined during times of epidemics. No matter where you beach or dock be aware of the tides that can fluctuate by as much as 7 meters or 21 feet.

Accommodations: There are dozens of fine hotels in the downtown area but trailer parking can be a problem so we suggest venturing five minutes to the west to the highway 540 and 73 interchange area where there are roughly half a dozen three-four star hotels.

IMG_3654Where to Launch: Finding a ramp is tricky with the vast water level changes but we suggest, “Rampe De Mise A L’eau” located on the east side of downtown on Rue de l’Anse au Foulon.

Where to Eat: We suggest Versa, located on the north side of downtown serving great seafood and a wide variety of food. There is something for everybody in the family except your trailer, take a cab or walk to Versa.

Ideal Sea-Doo model: Any of the Sea-Doo models with the S3 hull to bridge the chop and suspension to provide the smoothest ride, such as the GTX Limited iS 260, GTX 155 S, or the RXT-X aS 260.

Cocoa Beach, Florida

Many have heard of this Florida town perhaps as the home to I Dream of Jeannie, surfing star Kelly Slater, and NASA but further inland lies the flavor of the real Florida. Cocoa Beach certain has beautiful beaches and rests on the barrier island separated by the Banana and Indian Rivers. The, “rivers” aren’t actual rivers but estuaries, in fact the Indian River stretches over 80-miles along the east coast and is the most diverse estuary in North America with over 4700 different species of life.

DCIM100GOPROThese rivers offer great boating but 20-minutes further to the west is the beginning portion of the St. Johns River, one of four major north flowing rivers in the world filled with dark, tannic died waters of Florida swamp land. Here is where you will see blue herons, wild hogs, alligators and grazing cattle. The river is still narrow and twisty in this area offering the closest feeling to a road course on the water but be careful of airboats and other vessels around those blind corners and bring a GPS as the various fingers of the river begin to look alike.

DCIM100GOPROOn the St. Johns is where you will gain a new appreciation on how you can enjoy riding a Sea-Doo watercraft.

Accommodations: Cocoa Beach is a very popular vacation destination with dozens of hotels to choose from and nearly all of them have adequate trailer parking area. We suggest The Inn at Cocoa Beach that includes beachfront views, continental breakfast and happy hour wine and cheese.

Where to Launch: On the Banana River we suggest Kelly Park on the Beachline Expressway adjacent to Port Canaveral and with in view of NASA’s VAB (vehicle assembly building). On the St. Johns, we recommend to venture to Leroy Wright Recreation Area on the 520 highway across the street from the Lone Cabbage Fish Camp.

Screen Shot 2015-01-09 at 2.13.25 PMWhere to Eat: Grills Seafood at Port Canaveral is a must dine, accessible by land or water, Grills serves the freshest of Florida Seafood and treats you to live music and views of the action at the busiest cruise ship port in the US. On the St. Johns the Lone Cabbage Fish Camp is another must dine, also accessible by land or water, this rustic stop serves scrumptious gator tail while you can watch the tourists go come and go on airboat rides.

Ideal Sea-Doo model: The St. Johns is arguably the epitome of where the Sea-Doo RXP-X 260 was designed to be ridden. With miles of switchback turns on mirror flat water, the street bike riding style of the RXP-X has never been so fun. The other option would be a Sea-Doo Spark to playfully meander around the lush vegetation and protected waters and ability to easily manage the occasional shallow water areas.
