Dangerous Waters, an adventure reality show, is gearing up for their second Sea-Doo adventure.  In season one, the crew travelled 4500 miles from the shores of Seattle Washington, across the Bering Strait, landing on the remote Russian coastline on Sea-Doo personal watercraft. During this 65-day long trip they experienced breathtaking scenery, wildlife encounters, foul weather, rough seas and much more.

The same brave adventurers are embarking on their next adventure, making their final plans, ensuring their gear is ready, and will be departing from Sacramento,Calif.  This next expedition will take them from the northernmost tip of the American continent to Taiwan.

The first leg of the journey will be via land and air, the crew and Sea-Doo will be flying via Northern Air Cargo and Era Alaska to Nome, Alaska, where the adventure truly begins.   The crew departs Nome on July 1and will travel to Wales, Alaska, the westernmost town on the American continent, from there they will cross the Bering Strait to Russia.  Once in Russia, they will travel the distance of the Russian coast and head to the Kuril Islands.  After the Kuril Islands chain they will head to Japan and travel the west coast of Japan including Okinawa, Iwo Jima and will finish up in Taiwan.

“We have allotted 65 days for this expedition,” said Steven Moll, adventurer and founder. “If everything goes smoothly, and weather in our side, there is a possibility that we could travel farther than expected.”

All of the original crew members returned for the second expedition and include:Steven Moll, adventurer and founder; Andrew Mozella, adventurer, cameraman; Charles Davis, adventurer, mechanic; Wesley Davis, adventurer, pilot, cameraman and Patrick McGregor, adventurer.  Full team bios can be found of the Dangerous Waters website.

Little Mac provides Chris MacClugage new inspiration.

Chris MacClugage has made his living racing personal watercraft since the age of 14 so this year is the same but different. He is still racing but for the first time he is riding something he truly feels fits him. He is riding a Sea-Doo for the first time in his Hall of Fame career not because BRP bought his services  but because he did not want to compete again the new Sea-Doo RXP-X, he feels it is that good. At the age of 37, his life continues to be in constant change, as in changing the diapers of his four-month old son, little Mac. No, he is a father but Chris did take a few moments to jot down some of his recent happenings as he gets ready for the 2012 season.

The MACC Racing Update;

What have I been up to? Lil’ Mac, racing, training, product development….we have been very busy these past few months. Lil’ Mac is growing up quick and is such a beautiful boy—we are so thankful for him!

Our MACC Racing Sea-Doo watercraft racing sponsons finally made it to the market for 2012 models. We have worked hard to develop this high quality design that offers performance enthusiasts more adjustability for better customized handling and they are made in the USA.  The select, elite riders who have tried them loves them!

ProRider Magazine ace Photographer, Ronny Mac came out to Lake Havasu City where our shop is based at the end of March for a Pro Rider Magazine photo shoot with me on my new RXP-X. He took some product photos for us and a lot of photos for the Pro Rider Magazine.  I am very excited and proud that I will be featured on the cover of Pro Rider on my Monster/Macc Racing /Riva/RXP-X.  It’s an honor to have this type of following and the magazine really gives fans a great look into the enthusiasts portion of the sport and gives me a nice boost of energy to start off the racing season.

We have been working closely with BRP for the perfect handling set-up and Pete from MoTec ignitions to come up with a great spec calibration for my modified Race set up on my Sea-Doo RXP-X 260. My RXP-X is really good out of the box and we have complimented it by equipping it with a combination of great after market parts to take it to the highest caliber to win championships. Most of the parts are from Riva Racing, as they have always supported me and build great aftermarket parts along with our own Macc Racing, parts made for anybody who wants a little more from their watercraft. I know this is going to be a great combination for the season. Glen Perry, the chief technician at Skat Trak impellers has been bending some props for us, that are really putting the 4-TEC power to the water for my style!

Last weekend, I raced my first ever closed course race on a Sea Doo watercraft at a local race in Parker, Arizona. With our results from testing and practice sessions I am fully confident that I am going to have a great season.

I will keep you all posted on the season.

Thank you to all my sponsors for supporting me for the 2012 race season:

Universal Basic PFD (US)

With summer almost here, families and friends are eager to get outdoors and spend time on the water – boating, fishing, sailing and more. But, with approximately 500 people drowning each year from recreational boating accidents, it is imperative to push the message of “Wear It!”: wear your life jacket at all times while you are on the water.

Ladies Airflow PFD

The National Safe Boating Council, in partnership with the Canadian Safe Boating Council, invite boating safety professionals, the boating community and the media to participate in “Ready, Set, Wear It!” on Saturday, May 19. Participants in cities around the globe will gather to set a world record for the most life jackets worn and inflatable life jackets inflated. The goal is not only to promote the comfortable and versatile options when it comes to life jackets, but also to educate the public about life jackets and safe boating in general.

Men's Airflow PFD (US)

Last year, 1,685 people gathered at more than 99 events held around the world to set a new record for the number of participants who inflated their inflatable life jacket or wore an inherently buoyant life jacket.

Sea-Doo has a full line of Personal Floatation Devices (PFD)s from our Universal Basic PFD  to the Men’s Airflow PFD.  Not to leave out

the  ladies, we have the Ladies Motion PFD as well as a Ladies Airflow and other choices.  Our children’s line of PFDs includes the popular Kids SandSea and more.

After the initial shock of coming home from a long day at work and finding the 2012 Sea-Doo RXP-X in my garage, it didn’t take long before I was heading out on the water to break in the new watercraft.  In the short amount of time that I’ve had the new RXP-X, it’s already been on four different Florida Rivers, explored most of Tampa Bay, and been out in the Gulf of Mexico.

RXP-X First Ride

The Ultimate Fan, Kevin Wassum's, first ride on his new RXP-X 260

I was overly anxious to take my first ride so I took Friday off from work, after receiving the RXP-X, and headed east to the St John’s River in Florida.  Highwinds, thick clouds, and cold rain weren’t enough to stop me and several others from enjoying the ride.  The twisties provided by the winding contour of the SJR make for a perfect location to really test out the turning capabilities of the RXP-X.

Back home in Tampa, it was time to show off the RXP-X at my regular riding locations.  During the winter our most frequent ride goes from the Alafia Continue reading →

PWC Tour: North Channel St. Joseph Island – Sault Ste. Marie

Lake Huron’s North Channel runs from Killarney, Ontario in the east to Sault Ste. Marie in the east. St. Joseph Island sits at the western end and Hilton Beach is a great launch and overnight location. From there, we circumvented the island with a detour to the Sault for lunch. The main shipping channels are well marked and it’s neat to ride alongside a massive freighter (going so slow, they put out less wake than a PWC). On the way back from the Sault, be sure to stop into Richard’s Landing for fuel so you can make it all the way around St. Joseph Island. The north side of the water is Canada and south side is United States, so don’t set foot on shore of the country you are not a citizen of without checking into customs & immigration (bring your passport). This ride is a mix of populated and remote areas. Recommended for moderately experienced riders. Carrying extra fuel is a good precaution. Decent cell service in most places. Talk to you next time!

California offers Sea-Doo enthusiasts a wide variety of boating adventures! From The San Francisco Bay in Northern California, centrally located Los Angeles to the southernmost tip in San Diego, there are climates, waters and different boating styles available for even the most discriminating boater.

Boating in San Francisco

From the Golden Gate Bridge to Fisherman’s Wharf, San Francisco has something for everyone!  San Francisco offers boaters the opportunity to experience many of the top tourist activities by boat!  Sailboats abound in San Francisco and there are plenty of marinas and yacht clubs available that have guest docks for your Sea-Doo boats.  The city has four marina’s where you can reserve a berth as a visitor. If you are a member of a yacht club with reciprocal privileges you may be able to use the guest docks at St. Francis, Golden Gate and South Beach Yacht Clubs.  There are some centrally located public marinas: Pier 39 Marina, South Beach Marina, San Francisco Marina Yacht Harbor. For a full listing of public guest docks visit BoatingSF.com.

The waters surrounding San Francisco can be treacherous for boater unfamiliar with the narrow channels and turbulent waters.  We recommend that boaters headed to the San Francisco waters conduct thorough research prior to heading to the Bay area.  The State of California Department of Boating Services has produced an overview guide that is recommended reading for anyone heading to San Francisco by boat.

The Sacramento River is located near San Francisco and feeds into an arm of the San Francisco Bay.  The Sacramento Delta is a endless network of rivers, tributaries and channels that offer boaters an incredible time on the water. You can cruise for days exploring the islands, fishing, swimming, sailing or enjoying the scenery and the sunshine.

Three hours north of San Francisco, in Redding, Sea-Doo boat and PWC enthusiasts will enjoy Lake Shasta, a 35-mile long lake with almost 370 miles of shoreline.  Lake Shasta is formed by the Sacramento, McCloud, Squaw and Pit Rivers and is held back by the massive Shasta Dam, the second-largest dam in the US.  Lake Shasta is an extremely popular location for houseboating, powerboating and especially wakeboarding.

The surrounding cities of Alameda, Berkeley, San Mateo, Yosemite and many other cities within 100-250 miles of San Francisco offer boating and Sea-Doo opportunities for the northern California boat enthusiast.

Sea-Doo dealers in San Francisco:

  • East Bay Motorsports, Inc., 21756 Foothill Blvd., Hayward, CA 94541, (510) 889-7900
  • Grand Prix, 2360 El Camino Rd., Santa Clara, CA 95050, (408) 246-7323
  • GP Sports Inc., 2020 Camden Ave., San Jose, CA 95124, (408) 377-8780
  • Northbay Motorsports & Marine, 2875 Santa Rosa Ave., Santa Rosa, CA 95407, (707) 542-5355

  • Southern California—a Boaters Paradise

Southern California, known for ‘bikinis and babes’ is almost as well known for its endless miles of beach, water and spectacular locations for boating and PWC riding. The crown jewel of California, and the tri-state region of Nevada an Arizona, is the Colorado River.  This 233-mile stretch of the Colorado River is a year-round recreation area popular with powerboaters, paddlers, wakeboarders, waterskiers and for overall family fun.

The Colorado River also feeds into Lake Havasu in Arizona; a 45-mile long lake nestled along the foot of California’s Chemeheuvi Mountains. Lake Havasu has 450 miles of scenic shoreline and its deep waters are the perfect playground for watersports including wakeboarding, speed boating, jet skiing, swimming, fishing and boating in your Sea-Doo boat or PWC.

    Boating in Los Angeles

Visitors to Los Angeles enjoy sunshine, 75 degrees, ocean breezes and a bustling metropolis. Los Angeles is surrounded by lakes and water which provide boaters with a wide variety of activities to choose from including sailing, jet skiing, surfing, boating, camping, fishing…the opportunities are endless!

The most popular location in Los Angeles for boating is Marina del Rey, the largest manmade small boat harbor in the world. Marina del Ray’s recreation boating area offers approx. 5,300 small boat slips. It is the home to multiple yacht clubs, charter companies, and boat facilities, as well as a popular public beach. Visitors by boat can take advantage of overnight and four-hour guest docks, in addition to a public boat launch ramp.

Long Beach offers boaters an excellent departure point to sail, boat or ride your PWC over to Catalina Island.  Located just 22 miles off of the coast of Southern California, Catalina Island is a popular destination for all types of boaters.  Take a day trip, or stay overnight on the island. Choose from the city of Avalon or the town of Two Harbors, or any of the small coves in between. There are more than 700 moorings located around the island, so there truly is something for everyone.

An hour south of LA is the Newport Beach Harbor with seven islands and unending possibilities for a day out on the water.  Balboa Island is the gem of Newport Beach that offers excellent boating conditions and is an exciting tourist destination as well.

For lake or river boating, whether power or sail, things can get pretty crowded, but there’s a lot to see and do. To the east, Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino National Forest is a well-known natural mountain lake near L.A., and is popular for a wide range of recreational uses and offer visitors with a quaint mountain town for after-water activities.

Los Angles has plenty of activities and numerous locations for boating. Before heading to a lake or destination in Los Angeles, do your homework! Due to the popularity of most lakes many of them are crowded and limit boat and PWC launches to ease overcrowding.

If you are an avid PWC enthusiast and are looking for a place to ride your Sea-Doo PWC, a few recommended locations include:

    • Castaic Lake and Pyramid Lake – Castaic Lake and adjacent Pyramid Lake are both about an hour away from downtown Los Angeles
    • Puddingstone Reservoir – Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park’s Puddingstone Reservoir in San Dimas is a 250-acre lake is less than 30 minutes from LA
    • Marina del Rey – Launch your boat or PWC from Marina del Ray
    • San Pedro – San Pedro is a small port town near LA with a boat launch ramp for Sea-Doo and Jet ski riders (open 7am-sunset)

    Boating in San Diego

San Diego offers visitors 27 miles of waterfront parks, restaurants, marinas, shopping centers and cultural activities.  The waterfront is continually bustling with activities. The Bay of San Diego offers more than 60 waterfront restaurants and the Port of San Diego encourages boaters to utilize the “Dock and Dine” facilities located all around the bay.  There are 14 “Dock and Dine” facilities located on San Diego Bay. The Port of San Diego also offers a Boaters Guide that includes rules and regulations, dock and marina locations and helpful tips for boaters.

The San Diego coastline is home to some of Southern California’s finest beaches and watersport opportunities. The waterfront offers an inviting atmosphere, where visitors can stroll, bike ride, or roller blade leisurely along the coastline. Mission Bay Park, is the largest aquatic marine park of its kind. It is host to many aquatic activities such as fishing, bird watching, sailing, jet skiing and boating. Mission Bay is comprised of a network of waterways, inlets and islands and the best way to explore Mission Bay is by boat. Most of its 27 miles of shoreline are sandy beaches, with the remainder devoted to marinas and resorts.

As you travel up the coast from San Diego, one of first stops Sea-Doo boat and PWC enthusiasts will want to make is in Carlsbad at the Aqua Hedionda Lagoon.  This 66- acre outdoor lagoon, adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, provides the optimal southern California location for Sea-Doo boating, PWC riding, wakeboarding, water skiing and other family watersport activities.

The southern California coastline offers hidden gems as you travel up toward the Los Angeles area.  Oceanside is a quaint ocean town that boasts numerous small harbors perfect for launching into the Pacific Ocean.

California also offers many inland lakes such as Lake Perris, Lake Elsinore, Diamond Valley Lake and many more.
