BRP takes luxury riding to the next level with the introduction of the Sea-Doo GTX Limited 300. The combination of increased power and efficiency of the new 300-hp Rotax 1630 ACE engine with the advanced ergonomics of the Ergolock seat deliver a confidence inspiring ride allowing you to push your limits even further. This year all GTX models receive the new Ergolock seat with stepped design and the second generation of the intuitive Intelligent Brake & Reverse (iBR) system for an added level of control adding more value to the most full-featured luxury models in the watercraft industry.

ROTAX 1630 ACE Marine engine - Static4

ROTAX 1630 ACE Marine Engine

The new Rotax 1630 ACE engine is the most powerful engine ever produced by Rotax with a 15% power increase creating 300 hp, providing better acceleration and more mid-range power1. With increased intake air boost, improved cooling system and new ignition timing for the larger fuel injectors, the new Sea-Doo GTX Limited 300 elevates performance in the luxury segment.

In addition to the development of the new Rotax 1630 ACE engine, BRP applies the latest ergonomic science to perfect the rider position with the new Ergolock seat with stepped design on all GTX models in 2016. The Ergolock seat provides all riders a full body connection with the watercraft and a more natural position for more comfortable touring and confident cornering. The Ergolock seat design is sculpted to the riders’ bodies with a narrower section between the knees slightly widening towards the rear. The stepped-seating implements rising seating levels for better passenger vision with added lumbar cushioning providing added support for up to three riders that hold them in place better in all conditions.

The third major improvement for 2016 is all Sea-Doo GTX models will be equipped with the new second-generation iBR that improves on the intuitive iBR braking system with a more responsive activation and faster braking. The Sea-Doo iBR system introduced in 2009 is the first and only braking system recognized by the United States Coast Guard for contributing to recreational boating safety and stops the Sea-Doo watercraft close to 48.75 m (160-feet)2 sooner than the same watercraft not using a braking system. The new iBR system adds to the rider centric design approach providing unmatched control at speed and during tight quarter manoeuvring.

The GTX segment rides on the exclusive S3 hull (Stepped, Stable, Strong) that provides better wave penetration for a more stable ride and also offers the industry’s only suspension options on select models for the most comfortable ride available.

You’ve decided to make the next step and join the Sea-Doo Family. It’s a big moment, to be ready for so much more adventure in the water, and to know that the Sea-Doo watercraft you choose will be creating memories for yourself, friends and family that will last. Before heading to the dealer, it’s a good idea to have a few things in mind so that you can be sure that, with so many options, you’re able to choose the right one for you!

The Sea-Doo site has a pretty great tool called Find Your Sea-Doo. It makes a suggestion based on the preferences you select.

Sea-Doo_PWC_Family

What to Consider:

1. Riding Style –Here, you’re looking at three choices, and each comes with a helpful image in case you’re uncertain of which you’d prefer:
Spark-PlayfulPlayful – the rider that wants to go out, have loads of fun on a nimble craft and get a little wet while they’re at it.
Aggressive – this rider prefers to take on the waves at full speed with all of the power, performance, and technology available.
Relaxed – And, there are those who just want to cruise. This rider’s looking for luxury while they set their sights on new destinations and take in the waterways.

GTISeating2. Seating – In this section, you’ll choose between one to three seats. Generally, one-seaters are lighter and more nimble than three-seaters. And, if you’re planning to use your watercraft for towing, law requires three seats for the operator, spotter, and person being towed.

3. Riding Time – This takes into account each session on your watercraft which can be a challenge to decide on if you’re a first time owner. A good way to figure this out is to base your riding time on the amount of time that you will have available to spend on the water. After work? All day on the weekends? These basic questions will give good guidance.

RXPXSpeed4. Water Type – This preference combined with your riding style, will help suggest: the size of watercraft you may need along with whether you should get suspension.

5. Speed – Here, you’ll be telling the tool if you’re happy at a nice steady pace, or if you speed is a necessity in your life. This will better suggest the size engine for your riding style.

GTXComfort6. Comfort – Used along with the other categories, this will help to suggest a ride that has the right amount of stability and technology for your needs.

7. Maneuvering & Handling – Ease of handling your watercraft will be important. And, this will help determine the amount of control you need depending on whether you want to take tight turns on a dime, stop quickly, or dock in a matter of seconds with iBR technology.

TowSports8. Tow Sports – This preference is as straightforward as it sounds and the selection will help match you with a watercraft that gives the support you need for tow sports.

Ready to have your go, and Find Your Sea-Doo? Check out the tool here, and let us know in the comments if it lines up with what you had in mind for your dream Sea-Doo watercraft.

BRP invented the performance watercraft in 1991 and continues to lead the industry today. In 2014, BRP offers the strongest and most complete Performance watercraft lineup in the industry. Professional riders dominated 2012 and 2013 on these models by winning four consecutive IJSBA world championships.

The Performance family offers the best power and acceleration of the Sea-Doo lineup, with stunning design and cutting-edge technology. In a class by itself, BRP’s Sea-Doo RXP-X 260 watercraft became the new standard in the high-performance arena by winning both the 2011 & 2012 IJSBA Pro Open & GP racing World Championships, and the European tour Pro Stock and GP Championships in 2012 and continued this trend in 2013. The RXP-X 260 model was also the recipient of the prestigious National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) Innovation Award, the Red Dot Design Award, and was named 2012 “PWC of the Year” by PWCToday.com.

The 2014 Sea-Doo RXP-X 260 model is the ideal watercraft for closed course racers and performance enthusiasts. It continues to build its performance legacy with a new Viper Red color, ominous visual appeal, ingenious hull design and ergonomics that allow riders to realize 100% of their riding potential. The T3 hull design allows the RXP-X 260 model to aggressively lean into corners and penetrate chop better than any of its two-seater counterparts. T3 stands for “tight-turning t-hull” and uses an advanced, dual surface hull design with a unique combination of soft and hard chines, dual axis adjustable rear sponsons and performance trim tabs. This allows the rider to lean further into corners, turning tighter and faster, leaving the competition’s two-seaters in its wake.

The revolutionary Ergolock system integrates a narrowing, body-molded racing seat, Adjustable Ergonomic Steering (A.E.S.) system and angled footwell wedges, all complementing the lean-in characteristics. With the A.E.S. system, the rider can adjust the handlebar width and grip angle for a perfect upper body connection. The unique RXP-X 260 seat form-fits the rider’s legs, alleviating upper body strain in hard turns, using the leg muscles to lock the rider into the machine, and ultimately the water, better than any other two-seater.

BRP’s Intelligent Brake and Reverse (iBR) and Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) systems complete the picture and make the 2014 RXP-X 260 the most feature- and technology-rich two-seater in high-performance watercraft history.

aS – Adjustable Suspension: Suspension that utilizes a superior grade high-performance shock made by FOX with full preload and compression manual adjustability.

Closed Loop Cooling System (CLCS): Uses coolant to keep a Sea-Doo’s engine running at the ideal temperature, much like a car’s radiator. The CLCS also keeps out corrosive saltwater and debris.

D.E.S.S. Digitally Encoded Security System: The Industry’s first digitally encoded theft-deterrent system. This system prevents unauthorized use. Sea-Doo’s are embedded with a unique microchip that is engaged with the rider’s lanyard. This feature was singled out by the National Insurance Crime Bureau as one of the best theft deterrents available on a personal watercraft.[1]

D-Sea-Bel System: This system combines a series of resonators and vibration absorbing components to make Sea-Doo watercraft some of the quietest on the water.

ECO mode: The iTC function that automatically determines the most economical power delivery and sets the optimal RPM for greatest fuel economy.

Ergolock System: A combination of ergonomic features that allow amazing control while cornering with less upper body fatigue. It features a narrow racing seat with knee grab design, adjustable handlebars and angled footwells that allow riders to “lock” in when cornering hard. This results in faster turns and more time on the water.

High Performance VTS (Variable Trim System): Provides pre-set positions for quick settings VTS (Variable Trim System) when adjusting boat trim, maximizes acceleration and high-speed stability.

iBR – Intelligent Brake and Reverse: The world’s only on-water braking system. The iBR system lets riders stop up to 100 feet sooner than any other watercraft[2]. All with the squeeze of a lever. And with its electronic reverse, it gives riders a level of maneuverability that makes docking easier. Click here to view a video on Sea-Doo iBR.

iControl: The “Brain’’ that integrates and controls all systems to create the best possible ride. iControl includes iBR, iTC and S³.

iControl Learning Key: The programmable Learning Key allows riders to limit the performance of the PWC based on skill-level.

iS: Intelligent Suspension. 6 inches of adjustable suspension that automatically adapt to isolate the rider from the impact of rough water.

Impeller: A rotating component of a centrifugal pump, usually made of iron, steel, bronze, brass, aluminum or plastic, that transfers energy from the motor.

iTC – Intelligent Throttle Control: Sea-Doo’s intuitive Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) technology. Sea-Doo watercraft are the only watercraft to start in neutral, so the engine runs without propelling the craft forward – giving riders safer dockside starts and easy, stress-free maneuverability. The throttle responds to an electronic signal instead of a cable. This allows more precise engine calibration, resulting in better fuel economy and a lower operating cost. It also features an activity-specific cruise control, Touring/Sport mode and ECO™ mode that can all be set to accommodate riding styles.

Naturally Aspirated: The Sea-Doo air intake, like in a car, draws air into the engine that is then mixed with fuel to power the watercraft. In a Naturally Aspirated engine the engine breaths naturally without forced induction.

PWC: Personal Watercraft. A PWC is a recreational watercraft that the rider sits on, or stands on, rather than riding inside of a boat.  PWCs have an inboard engine fueled by a  jet pump with an impeller to create thrust for propulsion and steering.  Most are designed for two or three people. The United States Coast Guard defines a personal watercraft as a jet drive boat less than 13’ feet in length.

ROTAX 4-TEC Engine:  Each Sea-Doo watercraft comes equipped with a legendary Rotax 4-TEC engine specifically designed for marine use. Not only do riders get quicker acceleration and a higher top speed, Rotax engines also works hand in hand with iTC to provide more precise engine calibration. What this means is better fuel economy.

S3 hull: Stepped, stable & strong. Our S³ Hull is the first and only one of its kind. Its stepped design reduces drag while staying glued to the water for a stable and consistent ride. The material of the S³ Hull is up to 20% lighter than competitors *[3], yet the hull remains incredibly strong, due to its ribbed construction. This means better handling and fuel efficiency.

Seadooing: Riding a Sea-Doo on the water.

Speed Based Ski Mode: This advanced iControl feature allows the driver to adjust the intensity of the launch for different rider skill levels and tow sports while maintaining a constant speed. There are 5 acceleration profiles for the best possible tow sports experience.

Sponsons: Projections from the sides of the watercraft for buoyancy and stability to increase floatation and lift when underway

Supercharged: Extra power. The engine artificially force feeds air into the engine increasing performance.

Suspension (S): Adjustable Suspension: 5.5 inches (12.7 cm) of suspension manually adjustable with a regular wrench. Gives riders a smooth ride in all water conditions.

T3 Hull: Innovative multi-staged design with extreme hard and soft chines. Allows for more precise cornering, enhances lean-in, cuts water and tracks better; extremely responsive.

Touring or Sport mode: Offers a choice between two throttle responses for different riding styles. Touring mode is the default setting offering a more progressive acceleration curve for a more confident ride – ideal for cruising and 2-up riding. Sport mode can be easily activated using the Sport button. It provides all acceleration performance for a more aggressive throttle response.

Touring Seat: Plush, ergonomic design provides maximum comfort and support for the rider and passenger.

Trim Tabs: Limit bow rise and improve parallelism to water. Also increase tracking in rough water conditions.

Tubing: The act of pulling an inflatable tube behind a personal watercraft or boat across a body of water.

Wake:  (Nautical Term) The waves or track left by a vessel or other object moving through water. Wake Boarders and Wake Skaters have made a sport out of riding the wake.

Wake Boarding:  A surface watersport, which involves riding a wakeboard over the surface of a body of water. It was developed from a combination of waterskiing, snowboarding and surfing.  A wake board is buoyant and traditionally constructed of foam or honeycomb mixed with resin and coated with fiberglass. The rider is attached to the wake board with adjustable bindings. The rider is towed behind a motorized vehicle such as a Sea-Doo watercraft, a boat, winches or a closed-course cable system.

Wake Skating: An adaptation of wakeboarding that uses a similar board design but the rider is not bound to the board in any way. The board is constructed of wood or fiberglass and covered with grip tape or a soft, high-traction foam, usually referred to as EVA foam. Here is a link to our instructional WAKE series on YouTube.

Waterskiing: A sport in which a person is typically pulled behind a personal watercraft, boat or cable over a body of water.

1995 Sea-Doo HX

The Sea-Doo brand was embracing the watercraft industry leadership position in 1995 and product development was progressing at an astounding pace. Two new Rotax marine engine platforms were introduced in 1995, the 717 twin-cylinder and the 787 RAVE (Rotax adjusting variable exhaust) engine.  The 717 engine was nestled into the new Sea-Doo XP hull code named the X4 hull that spawned from learnings from the companies race teams. This hull’s design included a nose section dropped down and extended the transom with interchangeable trim tabs for greater surface area touching the water for better handling than the previous version hull.

The headliner of the 1995 line was the new Sea-Doo HX watercraft. The Sea-Doo HX featured a very aggressively designed hull with extreme keel angles and ultra narrow running surface for slicing through chop and a pronounced inward angled gunnel chines to allow the machine to lean into turns similar to a motorcycle with the industry’s first production suspension seat that compressed with the g-forces of a turn to lower the rider’s center of gravity and absorb shock in straight line chop.  The Sea-Doo HX was inspired by the dolphin and the design characteristics can be seen in the shape of the HX. The 1995 Sea-Doo HX was the first watercraft to win the prestigious NMMA IMTEC award (now the NMMA Innovation Award).

Sea-Doo Limited edition XP785

Bombardier also released a monumental watercraft called the Sea-Doo XP 785, a limited edition performance model featuring the new 787 “slant” engine featuring the RAVE system perfected in Ski-Doo snowmobiles to change exhaust timing to maximize low end torque and top end RPM. This would be a historical model introduction that would go on to be the winningest racing runabout watercraft model of all time.

Watercraft racing would be close to its all-time peak in popularity and the biggest names in the sport were now competing in the Pro Runabout class with the Sea-Doo X-TEAM led by the sport’s most popular rider, ‘the flyin fish’ Chris Fischetti.  The Sea-Doo brand was also growing its involvement with the Pro Wakeboard tour as wakeboarding was quickly overtaking traditional skiing as the most popular tow sport. Enthusiasts began to realize they could be pulled by the Sea-Doo GT model watercraft making wakeboarding easier, less expensive, and more accessible to more people.

Innovation in the three-seater category continued to grow that segment with the Sea-Doo GTX receiving a power upgrade in 1995 with the addition of the 657 Rotax engine and first ever touring seat option for a plusher ride.  Personal watercraft was the hottest recreational product in the industry and the Sea-Doo dealer network could not get enough product to fill demand.

Bombardier also became very proactive in the areas of social responsibility and boater education with the “Boat Smart From the Start” campaign. To gain public attention boating safety and responsible watercraft operation the Sea-Doo brand was partnered with the world’s most popular TV show of the time, and a show that’s theme was water safety, Baywatch. Many of the actors made public appearances at boating events promoting safe boating practices as well as lending their time for Public Service Announcements for proper watercraft use and wearing Personal Floatation Devices (PFD).
