Orlando, Florida August 16, 2016 – BRP offers more performance watercraft options with two new 2017 Sea-Doo models  including the high value GTR 230 and new GTR-X 230 with Ergolock system. Both models will be powered by the new 230-hp Rotax 1500 HO ACE engine and join the RXT 260, RXT-X 300 and RXP-X 300 to further strengthen the strongest performance line-up in the watercraft industry.

The new Sea-Doo GTR-X 230 watercraft becomes the most affordable X-model (extra performance) and is powered by the new Rotax 1500 HO ACE engine that will push this new watercraft from idle to 60 mph (96,6 km/h) in 5.3 seconds, which is 2.4 seconds quicker than the closest competitive model1. The new GTR-X 230 model receives the complete Ergolock system that includes the Ergolock seat, Adjustable Ergonomic Steering (A.E.S.) handlebar, and angled footwell wedges. The Ergolock seat allows riders to hold onto the watercraft better by using their stronger leg muscles to squeeze the narrower seat, thus improving control and reducing upper body fatigue for a more confidence inspiring ride to push riding limits even further.

2017 Sea-Doo GTR-X 230

Powering the Sea-Doo GTR-X 230 and GTR 230 models is new Rotax 1500 HO ACE engine, designed with the Advanced Combustion Efficiency philosophy producing 15 more horsepower than its predecessor while maintaining minimal mass for strong power-to-weight performance. The advances in thermal dynamic cooling and overall refinement in the 1500 HO ACE engine elevates the nimble handling of the GTR platform to the next level of value-minded performance watercraft.

The new 230-hp Rotax 1500 HO ACE engine follows the 300-hp 1630 ACE engine innovation, including the plasma-coating technology for aluminum-block engines developed by a Rotax team in Gunskirchen, Austria. The plasma coating technology is a thermal spraying process that deposits a protective coating on engine cylinder walls to create a metallic layer that provides a hard and durable surface to withstand piston friction forces. It improves surface durability, while keeping the engine lighter and more compact with better heat transfer and superior performance, and reduced use of chemicals.

The Rotax ACE, or Advanced Combustion Efficiency, engines implement advancements in combustion and cooling efficiency that produce substantially more power without adding mass. The ACE philosophy aids the new Rotax 1500 HO ACE in producing 15 more horsepower power than the previous version to provide strong power-to-weight performance and is optimized for regular fuel resulting in more money saved at the gas station. While the new engine produces 15 more horsepower than its predecessor, fuel consumption remains on par. Adding to the innovation, the new Rotax 1500 HO ACE follows in the wake of it’s big brother, the Rotax 1630 ACE engine, with a maintenance free* supercharger.

All 2017 Sea-Doo performance models are equipped with the second-generation Intelligent Brake & Reverse (iBR), the intuitive braking system that reduces the stopping distance by nearly 160 feet (48.75 m) sooner2 than deceleration without braking. The Sea-Doo iBR is the first and only braking system recognized by the USCG (U.S. Coast Guard) since 2009 for contributing to recreational boating safety and adds to the rider-centric design approach providing maximum control in all conditions. The 2017 Sea-Doo performance models also include race-inspired features such as high-performance Variable Trim System (VTS), handlegrips with palm rest and race-inspired coloration and graphics.

As the lowest priced Sea-Doo X-model, the GTR-X 230 is powered by the new Rotax 1500 HO ACE engine and is joined by the race-proven Ergolock system that inspires more confidence in all conditions. The GTR-X 230 rides upon the playful yet precise GTI hull and when coupled with the new 230-hp powerplant it turns from mild-mannered to superhero status at the pull of the throttle lever, leaping from 0-60 mph (96,6 km/h) in 5.3 seconds.

The GTR-X 230 with Ergolock system allows the rider to connect with the watercraft to become one with it, allowing the rider to push the limits even further. The narrower, lower body-molded seat, Adjustable Ergonomic Steering (A.E.S.) handlebar, and angled footwell wedges, provide added leverage in aggressive cornering and are equally beneficial in connecting to the watercraft in choppy, open-water, straight-line riding. Adding to rider control and confidence is the second-generation iBR that reduces the stopping distance of the watercraft by nearly 160 feet (48.75 m) and the Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) with three power delivery modes including Touring, Sport, and ECO to best match the riding activity. The 2017 Sea-Doo GTR-X 230 delivers the best of watercraft high-performance and high-value.

2017 SEA-DOO GTR 230

The 2017 Sea-Doo GTR 230 model receives a 15-horsepower boost from the new Rotax 1500 HO ACE engine elevating the fun factor on what was already argued to be the most versatile performance model in the industry. The GTR 230 provides a gateway into the Sea-Doo performance family with all the adrenaline-pumping fun one can hope for at an affordable price.

2017 Sea-Doo GTR-X 230 (right) and GTR 230 (left)

The Sea-Doo GTR 230 model is the new stronger version of what has been the preferred model of the reigning AQUAX US 250 class champion3. This model is based on the nimble yet predictable handling of the GTI platform while offering more power from the new Rotax 1500 HO ACE engine for a superior power-to-weight ratio. The GTR 230 watercraft is also fully equipped with the Sea-Doo iControl technologies including the iTC and second-generation iBR system, providing added control in tight quarter situations and allowing the rider to stop sooner for greater peace of mind. The Sea-Doo GTR 230 features: integrated infocenter, high-performance Variable Trim System (VTS) and 30.8 US gallons (116.6 liters) of storage and available in Black and Octane Blue.

2017 SEA-DOO RXP-X 300

The Sea-Doo RXP-X watercraft is the most decorated performance model in recent racing history, claiming the past five Pro Open and Pro GP World Championships. The 2017 RXP-X is the industry’s undisputed king of closed-course racing and boosts the industry’s best power-to-weight ratio thanks to the 300-horsepower Rotax 1630 ACE engine. The Rotax 1630 ACE power package provides greater mid-range power for better cornering speed and produces over 1G during hole shot acceleration from a stop.

2017 RXP-X 300

The T3 hull design offers one-of-a-kind handling allowing the RXP-X 300 model to aggressively lean into corners and penetrate chop better than any of its two-seater counterparts. T3 stands for “tight-turning T-hull” and uses an advanced, dual-running surface hull design with a unique combination of soft and hard chines, adjustable rear sponsons and performance trim tabs. The T3 hull combined with the Ergolock system allows the rider to lean further into corners, using more of the available power, with greater confidence and less effort to turn tighter and faster.

The Sea-Doo RXP-X 300 also includes the intuitive second-generation iBR providing the only braking system available on a high-performance two-seater for an enhanced level of rider control. The Sea-Doo RXP-X model has set the standard for precise handling and in 2017 is available in Lava Red and the modern Monolith Black Satin coloration or race-inspired White and Dayglow Yellow. No watercraft turns like the 2017 RXP-X 300 and no watercraft is as fun and rewarding as when pushing your riding limits further on the Sea-Doo RXP-X 300.

2017 SEA-DOO RXT-X 300

The combination of the Rotax 1630 ACE engine power and advanced ergonomics of the Ergolock system delivers a confidence-inspiring ride allowing you to push your limits even further on the 2017 Sea-Doo RXT-X 300. The 300-hp Rotax 1630 ACE engine delivers more torque providing more mid-range power to help maintain momentum when riding through heavy chop where the jet pump is continually reengaging with the water. The Rotax ACE power package provides greater throttle response in all conditions and is the most powerful engine ever offered in a Sea-Doo watercraft.

fb-gp-rxt-x-300-overhead-25837-01-feb-2016

2017 Sea-Doo RXT-X 300

The 2017 RXT-X 300 integrates the race-proven Sea-Doo Ergolock system that allows the rider to connect with the watercraft better and use his entire body to hold on rather than only the upper-body, thus improving confidence and reducing upper body fatigue. The Ergolock seat, Adjustable Ergonomic Steering (A.E.S.) handlebar and angled footwell wedges, benefit in aggressive cornering and open-water, straight-line riding. The added ability for the rider to feel better connected to the RXT-X 300 delivers better control and less fatigue allowing the rider to utilize the available power more efficiently.

The performance three-seater provides wet storage under Sea-Doo’s exclusive removable watertight storage bin for a total storage capacity of 42.8 US gallons (162 liters)  including an ultra large glove box. The technical flowing edge designed top deck of the RXT-X model is complimented by the functionality of the stable and predictable S3 hull with adjustable rear sponsons. The RXT-X 300 watercraft is equipped with race-specific features including, digital infocenter with integrated lap timer and boost indicator and high-performance Variable Trim System (VTS). It also features the second-generation iBR adding to the level of rider control with the most intuitive operation and Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) systems with Touring, Sport and ECO modes. The 2017 Sea-Doo RXT-X 300 model is available in the two color variations of Lava Red and the modern Monolith Black Satin or race-inspired White and Dayglow Yellow.

 2017 SEA-DOO RXT 260

The 2017 Sea-Doo RXT 260 model is ideal for the weekend performance enthusiast looking for an exhilarating experience during longer rides. The three-seater with Ergolock seat ensures RXT 260 riders enjoy added control, comfort and confidence in all conditions with a form-fitting design for the driver and passengers.

  • 300HP SEA-DOO RXP-X AND RXT-X MODELS FOCUS OF 2016 RACING SEASON
  • SEA-DOO TO ACTIVATE MULTIPLE 2016 RACE SUPPORT PROGRAMS

Valcourt, QC, CANADA– April 7, 2016 – BRP is taking watercraft racing to the next level in 2016 with the Sea-Doo X-TEAM race programs and the return of an all-star roster of Pro watercraft racers led by the winningest runabout racer of all time, Dustin Farthing.

The introduction of the new Sea-Doo RXP-X 300 and RXT-X 300 watercraft models has performance fans excited for the start of the 2016 riding season, and BRP is supporting the racing community with multiple programs. The 2016 Sea-Doo X-TEAM Bounty program provides all Sea-Doo riders competing in the various disciplines of watercraft racing in North America the opportunity to earn contingency money throughout the season. BRP is also ensuring there are more competition-focused events through the Sea-Doo Promoter support program, sponsoring race events across North America.

BRP will sponsor premier racing events including the P1 AquaX Series, Pro Watercross Tour, IJSBA World Finals and others and will see a stacked team of veteran Pro racers representing the Sea-Doo X-TEAM in 2016. These racers include Claude Clayton, Anya Colley, Paul Green, Erminio Iantosca, Eric Lagopoulos, Tim Neff, Anthony Radetic, Troy Snyder, Blaine Spooner and the return of champion Dustin Farthing. Farthing is a 17X National and World Champion and has chosen to compete on a Monster Energy/Mountain Motorsports backed Sea-Doo RXP-X 300 for 2016.

farthing“I’m very excited to return to racing and competing on a new Sea-Doo RXP-X 300 watercraft,” said Farthing. “I raced aboard Sea-Doo watercraft in 1997 & 1998, and won two National and one World Championship. With the help of Monster Energy and BRP, the idea of coming back to racing after two-years of focusing my energy on my six BRP dealerships is now a reality. I’m looking forward to return to racing for this great manufacturer and the X-TEAM to earn championships in 2016.”

Farthing and all Sea-Doo watercraft riders will be eligible for Sea-Doo X-TEAM Bounty. The Sea-Doo X-TEAM contingency is essentially an, “open-sponsorship” that excludes no one, except those competing on other brands. In addition to the glory that comes with winning on Sea-Doo watercraft, comes the opportunity for extra prize money. In addition, the Sea-Doo X-TEAM Promoter support program provides event producers sponsorship funds to help them produce more, high-quality events. BRP works with promoters to ensure Sea-Doo performance enthusiasts have a place to ride and compete in an organized manner, providing another fun aspect of owning a Sea-Doo watercraft.

“BRP launched the next level of performance watercraft in 2016 and Sea-Doo X-TEAM fans around the world are anxious to see them compete,” says Tim McKercher, of Sea-Doo watercraft competition management. “BRP is excited to cheer on all Sea-Doo watercraft racers and to see Dustin Farthing back on Sea-Doo watercraft, joining a team that will show the world how the new RXP-X 300 model takes performance riding to the next level.

BRP does more for the sport of watercraft racing than any other company. For 2016, Sea-Doo X-TEAM program support begins at the opening event of the P1 AquaX series, taking place April 9, 2016 in Tavares, Florida.

Dr. Doo is ready to help prepare your Sea-Doo for its winter downtime by providing technical information to help ensure the good health of your Sea-Doo watercraft.  This monthly blog will include tips and insight on seasonal maintenance, systems care, and the products to help maximize your Sea-Doo Life.

As the days have become shorter the Sea-Doo watercraft riding season comes closer to an end. Now is the time to prepare your Sea-Doo watercraft for winter months. Non-use of your watercraft can be more damaging than excessive use if the proper preventive maintenance isn’t performed properly and in a timely manner.

For those who live north of the Sunbelt, the long winter months can be torturous on various systems and components. BRP provides a host of XPS products specifically designed to compliment the winterization performed by an authorized Sea-Doo dealer.

A trained and certified BRP technician knows the procedures to properly prepare your watercraft for months of non-use and the harsh conditions of a cold winter.

You too can help the health of you watercraft by following these simple tips.

Prevent Fuel-Related Problems with the Right Fuel Treatment Products

Screen Shot 2014-10-10 at 9.46.14 AMTo minimize condensation build up in the fuel system, you should store your watercraft with a full tank. When you fill your tank for the last time, Use BRP’s XPS Fuel Stabilizer or XPS Carbon Free Fuel Treatment to properly store and treat today’s fuel.

Depending on your weekend adventure schedules, your watercraft may be used infrequently and fuel can be aged 30 days or longer before it’s utilized in an engine. Fuel-related problems increase as the fuel ages. Therefore, fuel should be treated to stabilize and combat the risks of fuel system corrosion, fuel oxidation, the accumulation of fuel system deposits and phase separation. Keep fuel fresh and help prevent these fuel-related problems using XPS Carbon Free Fuel Treatments. This goes beyond Sea-Doo watercraft but is applicable to any machine that uses a combustion engine.

Fuel System Corrosion

Ethanol is an alcohol, and alcohols have corrosive properties. Both XPS Fuel Stabilizer and XPS Carbon Free have effective corrosion inhibitors that coat fuel system components to provide protection against the corrosive effects of ethanol-blended fuels. Blended fuels such as E10 degrade quickly and attract moisture that can lead to internal engine corrosion. Unlike your car, these problems are more severe for engines that sit idle and don’t have fresh fuel moving through the lines and injectors daily.

Fuel Oxidation

Both XPS Fuel Stabilizer and XPS Carbon Free have antioxidants that stabilize fuel and inhibit fuel oxidation. All petroleum products – gasoline, gasoline ethanol blends and all mineral and synthetic oils – contain hydrocarbons. Oxidation occurs when hydrocarbons react with oxygen and break chemical bonds.

This breakdown can occur in as soon as 15 days. Carbureted engines and vehicles with vented fuel systems are prone to rapid oxidation, and water contamination risk is increased due to humidity and condensation from temperature fluctuations – especially for watercraft that are near open water. For these reasons, fuel stored in a container or in an engine’s fuel tank should be treated quickly after purchase.

Fuel System Deposits

Fuel system gum and varnish deposits are the products of oxidation. These new, clustered compounds in oxidized clog fuel system components and can lead to difficult starting, non-starting, power loss or engine failure. XPS Carbon Free Fuel Treatment is a complete treatment and an addition to fighting the start of oxidation, it has functional cleaning/detergency properties to both prevent and help clean and remove system deposits that ruin engine performance. The XPS Carbon Free Fuel Treatment will help clean carbon deposits on the piston and in the combustion chamber, in turn helping maintain engine performance.

Phase Separation

Ethanol is hygroscopic, which means it has properties that attract. Approximately 0.5% water content will mix with E10 and burn harmlessly in an engine with few, if any, noticeable effects by the user. When this percentage is exceeded, most often from other methods of water contamination, the fuel blend can no longer suspend the water and it forms a separate, visible layer below the gasoline. Ethanol itself will not “grab” enough water vapor from the air to create phase separation – additional water comes from other contamination, commonly in the form of condensation from high humidity and rapid, broad temperature changes.

Unfortunately, there is no safe cure for phase separation and any product claiming otherwise makes a false claim. Once a fuel blend has separated, the fuel must be removed from the fuel system and discarded properly. The only safeguard for phase separation is to try and stop water contamination before it starts with careful fuel management.

  • Use XPS Fuel Stabilizer and XPS Carbon Free Fuel Treatment to protect against corrosion, stabilize fuel to fight oxidation and prevent fuel system deposits. It also cleans the fuel system and combustion chamber.
  •  Keep tanks full to reduce available interior surface area for condensation.
  • Try to avoid using non treated fuel in your Sea-Doo watercraft that was purchased more than 30 days prior.
  • Purchase fuel from busy fuel stations to ensure you fill up with the freshest fuel.
  • Avoid storing your watercraft and fuel containers in high humidity areas when possible.
  • Finally, avoid using a product that contains alcohol. Alcohol is often added to some manufacturer’s products as a means of suspending additional water in solution to prevent phase separation. Additional alcohol, when added to the an E10 fuel, is increasing the alcohol content to levels greater than the 10% rating that manufacturers warn users not to exceed.

Taking your Sea-Doo Rotax engine to its most basic form explains why fuel treatment is so important. For a combustion engine to operate properly it needs three things: air, fuel, and spark. AquaX Champion, Eric Lagopouls

Eric Lagopoulos claimed his second consecutive AQUAX series championship on a Sea-Doo GTR 215.

The championship was not determined until the final moto of the final race of the six event series, a year where the GTR 215 was the most popular model of the 250 class, Lagopoulos piloted the #361 consistently to podium spots an ultimately his second AquaX title.

After dozens of titles from around the world, Eric Lagopoulos has little to prove other than he can still win and win riding a Sea-Doo taken from the showroom floor against competitive factory supported teams. Lagopoulos has been in the sport of watercraft racing for over 20 years yet carries the youthful enthusiasm and drive to compete at the highest level of professional watercraft racing winning on what is fast becoming the sport’s biggest stage. We caught up with him to get some insight on his 2015 run.

Eric Lagopoulos aboard the #361 Sea-Doo GTR 215

Eric Lagopoulos aboard the #361 Sea-Doo GTR 215

OnBoard: Can you describe your 2015 AquaX season in one sentence?

Lagopoulos: “It was an incredibly exciting season filled with ups and downs but when it  came down to who was destined to be on top the season ended in pure satisfaction with the X-TEAM’s second championship in two-years!”

OnBoard: Why was the GTR 215 your craft of choose for the 250 class?

Lagopoulos: “The Sea-Doo GTR 215 is nimble in the surf and great in the flat and handles both with precision while being forgiving at the same time. It’s fast too and the reliability obviously helped us finish every race up front which is what you need to win championships over a grueling Aquacross season.”

OnBoard: Does the GTR 215 have an advantage over competitor models in regard to AquaX?

Lagopoulos: “I’ve had so much success on the GTR 215 in regards to Aquacross because of the different conditions each round. I mean is good in every condition. The GTR 215 is good in the flat water, good in chop, and good in the big surf races. It’s a watercraft that you can ride hard no matter where its ridden.”

bugOnBoard: What was the most memorable moment of the year, other than the last moto of the season?

Lagopoulos: “I had a really cool moment Sunday before the races as a ladybug landed on my arm and I knew it would be my weekend!”

Onboard: That isn’t exactly what we were looking for… so lets go straight to the dramatic moment Sunday. Can you tell us what was going on in your head in the last moto when you knew you had to beat one person to win?

Lagopoulos: “I really love the mental side of the sport, so knowing I had to beat one rider for the overall championship was really exciting! I pushed the entire race from the drop of the green flag to the beautiful checkered flag and my second Aquacross championship in a row! It was a tight race figuratively and literally. The GTR 215 simply proved it’s the better overall watercraft.”

Onboard: What’s next?

Lagopoulos: “I’m considering some really cool new opportunities in racing that I will be announcing in the near future so be sure to follow me on Facebook and on Twitter @Lagopolous and Instagram @lagopoulos1!”

7 Basic Tips for Sea-Doo Towing

You’ve been eyeing the next addition to your personal Sea-Doo line up. How can you have more fun on the water? The solution—WAKE. The Watercraft Journal recently reviewed the WAKE 155 model stating, “In perfect Sea-Doo fashion, the PWC manufacturer equipped with their Wake units with so much innovation and features that the segment has become one of the brand’s most popular in recent years. Branching further than mere wakeskate and wakeboard riders, the Wake models appeal to families using the craft for whipping towables around their local lake or river.”

Wake 155_13279_MY15

So you’ve made the decision and your new Wake model is home. You can’t wait to get out on the water. One of two things come to mind. It’s either, “I have never towed someone before. How do I do that? What’s right and wrong;” or “I’ve got this, let’s go.” Whichever way, safety is important so here are 7 basic tips for Sea-Doo towing.

1. Know your local laws before towing. Most states require that the watercraft is a 3-passenger with mirrors, with a driver and a spotter. Some states require safety signal devices.  Check www.boatus.org for the laws in your state.

2. Make sure your rope is secure to the watercraft, either a ski pylon or tow eye in the rear of the watercraft. Do not tie ski rope to anything that was not manufactured to be used as a tow point.

3. Take note of a person’s ability. Driver’s should practice without a skier, and focus on smooth accelerations and maintaining a steady speed. On Wake models (WAKE 155 & WAKE Pro 215), SKI mode is a standard feature and can be turned on to accomplish this. SKI mode is an advanced iControl feature that allows the driver to adjust the intensity of the launch for different rider skill levels and tow sports while maintaining a constant speed. You get 5 acceleration profiles for the best possible tow sports experience.

4. Once your skier is in the water, take the slack out of the rope. Begin idling once the slack is tight.  Then when the skier signals that they are ready to go, accelerate enough to pull the skier up on the top of the water. Get to your preferred speed and maintain that speed.

5. Always look forward, not behind at the skier, that is the spotters job.

6. When the skier is done or falls, come down to an idle, slowly turnaround without running the rope over, maintain a steady, slow speed back to your skier. Loop around behind them so they can reach the rope, and start all over again making sure you never aim straight at your rider, always stay to the left or right of them during your approach.

2015 SEA-DOO WAKE PRO 215_ACTION27. Signals for sking: thumbs up (faster), thumbs down (slower), fist on your head means you are done and you are going to let go of the rope (stop).
